Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr, who plays Vanessa Abrams on the teen drama, will make her major feature-film debut next spring in a big-budget film from The Hills Have Eyes remake director Alexandre Aja. The 24-year-old actress has been cast in Piranha 3-D, a remake of the 1978 cult classic film that featured Bradford Dillman, Heather Menzies, and Kevin McCarthy. Just like the original, the remake revolves around "a lakeside town being terrorized by prehistoric man-eating razor-toothed fish." This time, however, the movie will be in 3-D.
Szohr will be portraying "Kelly, a hot young townie caught up in the excitement of co-eds who have descended upon the area for spring break." The enlisting of Gossip Girl actress marks the latest casting scoop for Piranha 3-D. Previously announced cast for the movie includes Elisabeth Shue (Hollow Man), Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction), Adam Scott (Party Down), and Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws).
Piranha 3-D begins shooting later this month in Lake Havasu, Arizona, and is due in theaters March 19, 2010.
Aside from Piranha 3D, Szohr has signed on to join the cast of Walks, alongside Gossip Girl spin-off star Brittany Snow. The drama centers on the world of underground street art and a group of young city kids who band together when a convicted graffiti artist comes home. Walks, which starts filming this month, also features Entourage actress Emmanuelle Chriqui and Rumer Willis.
