Confession time. Not only did I watch this season of Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious in its entirety, but I also watched all of Season 1 (and to this day am annoyed that microphone tapping Asia was given the title, only to decide that "it wasn't the right thing for her" sometime after the show ended). I can't quite explain why, but I can't stop watching this trash!
At any rate, spoilers included, if learning who made it into Girlicious spoils anything for you...
If you recall, nobody left the previous episode, because everyone did so great (or, because the judges couldn't make a decision). We thus start off with 5 girls once more, being told that there's only room for 3. Natalie tries to eloquently express that it would have been nice if someone was eliminated (since she knew it wasn't going to be her). Classy girl.
So Ron Fair interviews all of the girls about "how much they want this", etc. Everyone talks a pretty good talk about how much they love each other and want it more than anything, except Charlye. While you could praise her for her honesty (expressing that she had trouble with some of the girls and would probably go back to school if this didn't work out...concerned about education? blasphemy!), she should have known that this isn't the way the game is played.
The girls are next told that they'll be performing a group song ("Ladies' Night") as well as solos. The assignments are as follows:
Tiffanie - Aretha Franklin's "You Make Me Feel (Like A Natural Woman)"
Charlye - Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats"
Nichole - En Vogue's "Giving Him Something He Can Feel"
Natalie - Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right"
Chrystina - Heart's "What About Love"
Though if anyone could handle it, it would be Tiffanie, did it not seem a little bit unfair that Tiffanie gets Aretha Franklin whereas other girls are getting Carrie Underwood and Nelly Furtado (nobody can deny that Aretha is by far the most difficult)?
After some footage of everyone practicing, we go right to the performances. In terms of solos, I thought that Tiffanie, Charlye and Chrystina were the strongest while Nichole and Natalie were the weakest (Nichole seemed very off in her timing; you could hear that the background vocals didn't match up with her voice), though the judges didn't give anyone negative criticism. Well, they told Charlye that they still weren't convinced she wanted it enough...
Who makes the group? Nichole is called first, and though I believe she had one of the weaker performances tonight, I think Nichole has had it in the bag for awhile. Every slutty girl group needs a hot platinum blonde and she was the only one left. Tiffanie is in next, followed by the much expected elimination of Charlye. Thus, we are left with bosom buddies Chrystina and Natalie. Cold move, judges. However, not to fear, because Robyn announces that while 3 is great, Girlicious will be 4. Surprise!
At the end of the show, the CW aired the music video for the first Girlicious single, "Like Me". I couldn't quite understand the lyrics, but it seems as though the song is pretty much about the girls being hot and us wanting to be like them (plus some "whooshie whooshies" thrown in there). Thus, the lyrics are pretty silly and forgettable, but I thought the boxing ring video theme was cool (and everyone's dancing looked pretty solid; I honestly thought they looked no more or less impressive than the actual Pussycat Dolls). Interestingly, I thought that Nichole was the clear star of that video (the video opened with her front and center and she definitely had the most solo time), followed by Tiffanie. Natalie and Chrystina were completely forgettable. I bet there's already group tension; I don't get the sense that Natalie views herself as a backup kind of a gal...
