Oprah's Big Give - premiering this Sunday on ABC - sounds like a great premise, right? Oprah gives money to people to GIVE away to other people, because, as the old adage goes, "tis better to give than to receive" (as long as the monetary portion of the giving stems from Oprah).
However, as the reviews for this show begin to flow in, they are not all too positive. The Huffington Post does a nice summary of reviews from a variety of other sources.
From the Hollywood Reporter: The show is "a profoundly hyperkinetic and unwieldy adventure in product placement, in Oprah-as-Messiah hype and, ultimately, in what's so utterly fake and insidious about "reality" television itself"
From Variety: "The concept...lurches forward like a reality-TV Frankenstein, birthed from parts of other programs."
Ouch. It's hard to believe you can screw up a show about charity, but it seems like that just may be what has happened here.
Will you be watching to find out?
