The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of July 17, 2017

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed — or at least be able to fake it — with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.

Loaded: S1E1

Loaded
(Series Premiere)

Monday at 10 p.m. on AMC

Why: The only thing more insane than seeing your bank account total soar from overdrawn to $18 million in a matter of minutes is the realization that your riches come from a smartphone game about cats that "mums play on the toilet." That's Loaded. It's a sort of Silicon Valley crossed with Fresh Meat, about four co-founders friends who sell their gaming company and then face the pitfalls that come with becoming multi-millionaires. Like being sued by their ex-drug dealer! It's not all bad, of course. Braggadocious alpha male Leon immediately buys a Ferrari and takes a champagne bath (no cava, he's "not an animal"); sweet and shy Ewan assuages his millionaire's guilt by offering a fellow coder a fat bonus; ex-junkie Watto buys a boat; and even the cautious Josh gets in on the fun, buying his parents a three-month trip 'round the world (although all they want is to go to Florida as usual). Jumping into the story at this point of success, with its many complications, is an interesting place to start. Add a new American boss (Mary McCormack) to the mix and there's plenty of room for folly.

Prepare to talk about: Lolly Adefope as the scene-stealing assistant; what you would do if you woke up $18 million richer; who you would send one of the "smug bombs" to.

Raven's Home: S1E1

Raven's Home
(Series Premiere)

Friday at 10 p.m. on Disney Channel

Why: After 10 years, Raven Baxter is home in the revival we didn't realize we so desperately needed. OK, I was (just) out of college when That's So Raven hit its pop culture peak, so you might think I never saw the Disney Channel classic. You would be very wrong. Best believe my roommate and I tuned in to bask in the light that is Ms. Raven-Symoné. As long as this new version let's her do her thing, it will be another winner, because whether you thought she was a dream or a nightmare on The View, the lady is sitcom gold with 20 years of receipts. On the new show, Raven and her free-spirited bestie Chelsea are divorced ladies raising their children together. For Disney Channel's usual audience, it'll be all about the kids: 11-year-old twins Nia and Booker (who has inherited Raven's gift), Chelsea's 9-year-old son Levi, and, of course, a nosy neighbor, Tess.

Prepare to talk about: How this kids' show is actually funny; how Anneliese van der Pol is a little bit of a Lea Michele.

Insecure: S2E1

Insecure
(Season Premiere)

Sunday at 10:30 p.m. on HBO

Why: Words like "fresh" and "unique" were used to describe Issa Rae's HBO comedy when it debuted last year — and as unoriginal as they seem, they're spot on. The "groundbreaking" series, co-created by Larry Wilmore, returns with the fictional Issa licking her wounds after her brutal breakup with Lawrence — an outcome she wanted... until she didn't. Fortunately, she and Molly are back in business, so she has a badass BFF to help her re-enter the single life. (Cue the montage of terrible dates.) On the job front, Issa's newish work friendship with Frieda is challenged as the after-school workshop hits a hurdle. Meanwhile, Molly comes to the depressing but not entirely surprising realization that she's very undervalued by the partners at her law firm (shout out to Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's David Hull).

Prepare to talk about: Lawrence and whether he and Issa are right on or not right; how we all probably should be in therapy; Issa's larger group of girlfriends, delivering serious laughs.

I haven't received a notification since July 5th. I started looking around the site to see if it was still up and running! No notification about shows I watch at all. Checked my tracker and the calendar and several shows I track have premiered and I wasn't notified about them. Anyone else having problems?

@kim-berly, if you have a minute to head over to support.sidereel.com you should be able to get some help troubleshooting the issue.
