While both V (Reimagined Series) and FlashForward premiered strongly on ABC - so much so that both appeared like the net's next big hit - since their initial strong debuts, both shows have been shedding viewers. FlashForward in particular has been sinking to new lows with each successive outing. The show also took an unexpected production hiatus back in November.
Now FlashForward is benched until March 4th (a somewhat unexpected, lengthy hiatus) and V is on hiatus until March 30th.
Furthermore, ABC has announced that they are cutting the episode orders for both shows.
Does this mean that both of ABC's potential new hits are now potentially in trouble?
Don't get too concerned just yet. The episode orders for both series have only been cut by one. Furthermore, ABC insists they are only withholding FlashForward until March so that they can air the remaining episodes straight through without reruns. V was expected to have a lengthy hiatus all along.
However, should both shows survive to see a second season, the ratings are definitely going to have to show some improvement come March.
Lately, I've been thinking that perhaps both shows would be better off as limited-run, single-season series anyway. I question the sustainability of both shows' plotlines. What do you think? Are you still even watching?
