REPLAN IT brings to life the science of “appropriate technology” – using engineering techniques and physical structures, machinery and manpower, to meet the specific needs of diverse communities. The technology uses only the material at hand or readily available. It can be built at a low cost and operated and maintained by the local community with limited outside assistance. Jock will use his expertise to change lives in the developing world and right where you live. In each series, we'll show you “ground zero” of the appropriate technology movement – the classrooms of some of the most prestigious universities in America – to watch the incredible work of tomorrow's greatest minds. And for the viewer at home, we'll show inspiring projects that can be applied in the kitchens, basements and back yards of Main Street America.

This episode of REPLAN IT introduces the machine that changed everything: Jock's Peanut Sheller (aka The Universal Nut Sheller). Made from simple materials found anywhere, the device shells peanuts 500 times faster than by hand, greatly benefitting the economy of where it's built. Jock's invention allowed him to establish the Fully Belly Project, leading to a relationship with MIT. With this newly founded collaboration, the peanut sheller would only be the beginning...
