Battle of the Seasons is the fifth season of Real World/Road Rules Challenge. The show premiered in early 2002 and took place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. In each episode, the cast competed in a challenge, and the top three Real World and top three Road Rules teams would become the "Inner Circle" and have the power to vote off teams. The "Inner Circle" was determined by a cumulative score that would be tallied on a leader board. The final six teams would compete for a final prize worth $300,000.

We start off with the Real World team at breakfast. When they first started the challenge, they all thought they had no chance at all to win. But now that they're getting close to the end, they believe they can take it home! Sean comes up with the idea of a Real World person will team up with a Road Rules person, so that way if one team wins, they will share the chili's money with their partner. That way everyone will walk home with something. Since Sean is a lawyer, the teams have picked him to draft up a contract. Tara says she's so sure they're gonna win that she doesn't know if she wants to give up any of her money. That night, they get a message that their next mission will be at 10am tomorrow and they need to wear bathing suits, shorts, and sunscreen. We then see Emily talking on the phone with James from Road Rules Maximum Velocity Tour. She says after the last challenge they hooked up and been with eachother ever since. The following day, they arrive at the beach to find their next mission is "Block Head". Each team will have to build a tower 4 blocks high. The catch is each block has different colors on each side and when they build the tower, the whole tower must be the same color. There will be a swimmer who goes out in the ocean and gets the blocks that are floating in a circle, while the other teammate is the builder, who will stay on the beach and build the tower. Once the tower is built, one teammate must assist the other on top of the tower and then that teammate must blow a whistle. The team that can do this the fastest wins a surf package from Local Motion. The competition begins and the teams finish as- 1)Timmy & Emily 2)Sean & Elka 3)Dan & Tara 4)Theo & Holly 5)Danny & Kelley 6)Mike & Coral Since Timmy & Emily finished first, they won their first mission and a Local Motion Surf Package. Sean calls Rachel and lets her know that Elka & Himself have a 11 point lead over Mike & Coral and that pretty much means they locked the 1st place spot on Real World. He then realizes that he will have to be the leader in the final mission and that causes him some stress. The teammates continue to consider splitting their winning money with someone on the other team. Supposedly Dan & Sean already have a deal. Holly won't have anything to do with it cause she believes that if she does pick someone to split the money with that means she has fear that she won't win the final mission and she has no fear. We see Danny & Tara make a deal and also Emily & Elka. We end with Elka wondering if she can trust someone to give the money to her or even if she will give the money to someone else if she wins.
