Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012NBC got pretty decent ratings from its new Tuesday lineup, as "Go On" pulled in solid numbers in its time-period premiere and "The New Normal" drew ratings almost identical to its Monday debut. "The Voice" was off a little bit from Monday's premiere but still drew the night's biggest audience."Parenthood" was also in line with its usual ratings. The caveat, of course, is that the other networks are still in summer mode -- the only other original offering Tuesday night was "So You Think You Can Dance" on FOX. NBC led the night with 8.4 million viewers and a 5.4 rating/9 share in households. CBS (7.5 million, 5.1/8) came in second in viewers, well ahead of FOX's 4.3 million and 2.6/4. ABC (2.4 million, 1.7/3) took fourth. The CW trailed with 670,000 viewers and a 0.4/1.NBC's lead among adults 18-49 was wider -- its 2.9 rating almost doubled... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/09/tv-ratings-go-on-has-solid-opening-tuesday-while-the-voice-and-the-new-normal-are-steady.html

The New Normal Series Premiere: Grade It!

Does NBC have a new comedic hit on its hands? Or the latest in a long line of flops? The New Normal was given a special, much-hyped premiere tonight, following the season debut of The Voice . Did Ryan Murphy's latest sitcom, about a gay couple, its surrogate and her unique family, deserve such an unveiling? Did you tune in? Will you continue to do so in its regular time slot on Tuesday evenings? Simply put: What did you think of The New Normal premiere? 'New Normal' series premiere: Will you tune in again?

NBC debuted "The New Normal" Monday night (Sept. 10), the new comedy about a male gay couple (Justin Bartha and Andrew Rannells) who pursue surrogacy via single mom Goldie (Georgia King) in order to start their family. Ellen Barkin also stars as Goldie's grandmother, who is very much against gay marriage and gays as parents. What did you think of the premiere? It's certainly been embroiled in controversy. One Million Moms called for a boycott, and NBC affiliate KSL out of Utah has refused to air it because of possible explicit or crude content. Star Andrew Rannells tells Zap2it that he hopes the very people calling for the boycott tuned in and may see that it's not exactly what they thought it was. "I think they might be surprised that both sides of the gay marriage and gay parent issue is brought up. It's in a comedic way, but both sides are shown," says Rannells.... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/09/new-normal-series-premiere-will-you-tune-in-again.html

The 'New Normal': 'Glee' and 'American Horror Story' producer Ryan Murphy shakes up the family comedy

Ryan Murphy helped bring back musicals with his freak-and-geek-tastic FOX series "Glee," and his "American Horror Story" simultaneously scared the wits out of its viewers while making sly observations about the nuclear family at its core. But "The New Normal," the NBC Tuesday comedy premiering Sept. 11, may be Murphy's most surprising and subversive series yet, finding humor and heart in a decidedly shopworn premise: a couple pursuing their dream of becoming parents. The couple in question here is gay: Bryan (Andrew Rannells from Broadway's "The Book of Mormon"), a successful television producer, and David (Justin Bartha, Nicolas Cage's sidekick from the "National Treasure" movies), a sweet-natured gynecologist. Happily in a stable and committed relationship, they desperately want a child to share their lives but become disheartened by the obstacles they face.Enter Goldie (Scottish newcomer Georgia King), a waitress who has fled a dead-end marriage in Ohio to make a fresh start in California with her precocious... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/09/the-new-normal-glee-and-american-horror-story-producer-ryan-murphy-shakes-up-the-family-comedy.html
