Nicole Scherzinger's tenure on 'The X Factor': Where did it all go wrong?

When Nicole Scherzinger got fired from "The X Factor" on Monday (Jan. 30), it may have come as a shock to some. But the signs were all there that the tenure of the former Pussycat Doll, who herself was discovered on the singing competition "Popstars," was doomed from the start.Fans of the show know that Scherzinger wasn't even producers' first choice for the fourth judge's chair. She was actually a late replacement after Cheryl Cole got the hook. And without proper time to really test out the chemistry, the Scherzinger experiment was off to a rough beginning. While she did a nice job helping runner-up Josh Krajcik get to the finals, it was his talent that was really the key here.Scherzinger was often the victim of barbs from Simon Cowell. While this is par for the course for Cowell, it was clear that he viewed her as a music industry lightweight when compared to the other... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/02/nicole-scherzingers-tenure-on-the-x-factor-where-did-it-all-go-wrong.html

'The X Factor': Changes we might see for Season 2

Now that the overhaul has begun on "The X Factor" with the dismissal of Steve Jones, Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul, it's time to think about what Season 2 will look like. Here are some of our best guesses as to what might change to help boost rating for the singing competition:An American host: Simon Cowell recently admitted that there were one too many Brits on the show. And it's also clear that Jones' wooden delivery didn't do much for viewers. So expect someone way more affable who can interact with the judges and who is from the U.S.A. Could it be Nick Cannon, who works on the Cowell-produced show "America's Got Talent?" Or might they poach Nick Lachey, who has hosted "The Sing-Off," NBC's a cappella singing competition? The mentoring assignments: This may end up working more like a draft, with each judge required to pick one from each category - boys, girls, over 30... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/01/the-x-factor-changes-we-might-see-for-season-2.html

'X Factor': Paula Abdul out as well?

And the hits just keep on coming. It has already been revealed Monday (Jan. 30) that host Steve Jones and judge Nicole Scherzinger are exiting "X Factor," but now it looks as though Paula Abdul is gone too, according to Deadline.A source close to Simon Cowell tells the site that it was cleaning day over at "X Factor" and that none of the three chose to leave. We wonder who Cowell plans on bringing in to liven the place up. "X Factor" never could quite live up to "Idol"-esque ratings. "X Factor" averaged right around 12.5 million viewers per episode, while "Idol" in Season 11 is so far averaging 19.3 million per episode. Not the ratings "Idol" once got, but still pretty big.... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/01/x-factor-paula-abdul-out-as-well.html

'X Factor': Nicole Scherzinger not returning as a judge

"The X Factor" has folks leaving it like rats off a sinking ship Monday (Jan. 30). First the news broke that host Steve Jones would be leaving - it was actually announced by Jones himself on Twitter. Now Nicole Scherzinger is out, FOX confirms to Zap2it. And lest you get any ideas that she's stepping out from behind the judges table to take over hosting duties, that is incorrect. She is gone completely from the show, FOX tells us.So what do you think, "X Factor" fans? We aren't too sad to see Steve Jones go. He seems like a great guy, but he wasn't a great host of the show. As far as Scherzinger goes, she wasn't a terrible judge, but we're also not quite over what she did to Rachel Crow.Thoughts?... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/01/x-factor-nicole-scherzinger-not-returning-as-a-judge.html

'X Factor': Simon Cowell hints Steve Jones may be out

Simon Cowell promised some re-tooling of "The X Factor" before the singing competition heads into Season 2. And it's looking more and more like the first major change may come at the expense of the show's host, Steve Jones. In an interview with The Daily Mirror, Cowell didn't offer a ringing endorsement for the possibility of Jones' return. "He got a lot of stick (a British term for criticism). I don't think he did a bad job but, like 'America's Got Talent,' there is a Brit limit on the show," Cowell says. Jones is from Wales. Cowell is from England. This underwhelming support for Jones has been a recurring theme in recent weeks. At the Television Critics Association press tour, FOX Entertainment head Kevin Reilly says, "Whether Steve's the guy or not, it comes under the heading of growth in general, so there will be some tweaks to the show." Reilly adds, "Hosting, as we know, it... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/01/x-factor-simon-cowell-hints-steve-jones-may-be-out.html

Simon Cowell and Fiancée Taking a Break

Simon Cowell and fiancée Mezhgan Hussainy are taking a break, Cowell tells the Daily Mirror .  "It's quite a complicated relationship," he said. Randy Jackson Says American Idol Was First, X Factor Is a Copy

There's no denying that American Idol is the OG of reality singing competitions, but is it fair to say the FOX hit invented the competition show? According to judge Randy Jackson, Idol not only paved the way for programs like The X-Factor and The Voice, but it also created a serious copycat effect. "Simon [Cowell] and Paula [Abdul] are dear friends of ours. They started this whole Idol tradition with us," Randy told The Wrap of his former Idol colleagues who recently jumped ship to The X-Factor."I... http://feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/mC-uK-3ExpU/randy-jackson-says-american-idol-was-first-x-factor-is-a-copy

Simon Cowell Getting $42 Million for The X Factor and Other Ventures

It turns out that the $5 million recording contract that Melanie Amaro received is a relative pittance compared to the $42 million Simon Cowell is getting for The X Factor and other enterprises. The Guardian in London, citing corporate papers filed last week, reports that Cowell, the show's creator and alpha judge, made that amount in a deal with Sony that set up a joint venture for his entertainment businesses, which include the Fox network amateur-singing competition. http://www.tvguide.com/News/Simon-Cowell-Getting-1041123.aspx?rss=breakingnews
