After a shipwreck in which he's presumed dead, he returns home and ventures on a quest to right the wrongs of his past, and save the city of Starling from a rising tide of crime.

In this updating of the popular 1990s series, Smallville's Kristin Kreuk stars as detective Catherine Chandler, and she's got a monster in her past. As a teenager, she was witness to the murder of her mother, and would have died herself, if not for the intervention of what police deemed to be some kind of "animal." But Catherine knows what she saw. And a meeting with a shadowy stranger has her convinced she's met the "beast" of her youth…
