Fall 2013 Roundup
The viewers have spoken and the results are in. Back in September, our editors tried guessing which shows would (or should) be hits, and which were less deserving! Time to take stock and find out what we got right, and where we missed the mark — and as a bonus, we've included a few long-running shows that deserved second opinions.

Then: Joss Whedon brings The Avengers to TV! Kind of! So yes, I'll be watching. Pick! Airs Mondays at 8:00PM on ABC
Show Status: Picked Up! Now: This show has fallen down under the weight of its expectations. If only a show could be Whedonesque AND successful. Pan!
Then: Because James Spader is super hot. Right? RIGHT?!? Pick! Airs Mondays at 10:00PM on NBC
Show Status: Picked Up! Now: At first I thought I'd blown it, because the pilot was so focus grouped, but it's become truly fascinating. Pick!
Then: I think SMG already wasted her TV comeback on Ringer, but anything involving Robin Williams can't possibly be terrible... right? Pick! Airs Thursdays at 9:00PM on CBS
Show Status: Picked Up! Now: Remind me to just pop in my Mrs. Doubtfire VHS the next time I need a Robin Williams fix. Pan!
Then: Another vampire show? Yes, it looks pretty (gory), but Meyers doesn't quite have the gravitas for this bloody serious take on the genre. Pan! Airs Fridays at 10:00pm on NBC
Show Status: Undecided! Now: This reboot, while very pretty, is a mangled mess that not even a sexy lead can bite some life into. Pan!
Then: Do we really need another show about the 80s? Pan! Airs Tuesdays at 9:00PM on ABC
Show Status: Picked Up! Now: While I initially thought the 80s were tired, The Goldbergs has turned out to be an endearing family comedy that has glimmers of The Wonder Years. Pick!
Then: But it could be a knee jerk reaction to a procedural featuring a super hot disabled minority in the lead. Pick! Airs Wednesdays at 10:00PM on NBC
Show Status: Canceled! Now: I normally enjoy cop shows, but not even Blair Underwood could prevent this ho-hum procedural from falling asleep at the wheel. Pan!
Then: Pretty much every new Showtime series has become my new favorite show... I'll just have to make sure I watch this one in private. Pick! Airs Sundays at 10:00PM on Showtime
Show Status: Picked Up! Now: This new Showtime drama is even racier and more addicting than I initially predicted. Pick!
Then: I like Michael J. Fox, so... I'm really hoping this show is funny. Pick! Airs Thursdays at 9:00PM on NBC
Show Status: Undecided! Now: It's pretty run of the mill… but Michael J. Fox has still got it. Pick!
Then: Oh, Will, you're better than fart jokes and mortifying parents. I miss Up All Night all over again. Pan! Airs Thursdays at 8:30PM on CBS
Show Status: Picked Up! Now: The cast is outstanding and does the best it can with crude material, but it still isn't funny. Pan!
Then: Since Damon is all happy with Elena, Klaus is my new bad boy of choice. Pick! Airs Tuesdays at 9:00PM on The CW
Show Status: Picked Up! Now: It turns out this show IS The Vampire Diaries! Sorry sexy people, I've got enough bloodsuckers in my tv schedule. Pan!
Then: I'll stick to marathoning old episodes of The Tudors. Pan! Airs Thursdays at 9:00PM on The CW
Show Status: Picked Up! Now: This show is still terrible, but entertainingly so. Pick!
Then: Decapitation, supernatural crime, law enforcement, and a hot guy with a British accent and inexplicably long hair. Okay! Pick! Airs Mondays at 9:00PM on Fox
Show Status: Picked Up! Now: This show is completely cray and completely entertaining. Pick!
Then: But I'll watch the pilot just for some cheap laughs courtesy of Rebel Wilson. Pan! Airs Wednesdays at 9:30PM on ABC
Show Status: Picked Up! Now: I can't help it... Rebel Wilson just makes me laugh no matter what the context. Pick!
Then: I predict this will be one of the first shows cancelled. Pan! Airs Fridays at 8:30PM on NBC
Show Status: Canceled! Now: I stand corrected, it was the THIRD show to be canceled. Pan!
Shows We're Watching Again
Even I, a devoted fan, thought seasons 7 and 8 were rough going, but season 9 has gotten delightfully meta. Pick! Show Status: Renewed! Will Return 2014 on FXX
Shows We've Lost Interest In
No longer pure, soapy fun, Revenge has turned into a convoluted mess that is now a chore to watch. Pan! Show Status: Undecided! Airs Sundays at 9:00PM on
