A Cougar Town Regular Is Headed to Fox’s Touch

Fans of Cougar Town (and late vintage Felicity ) will soon have an added incentive to check out Fox's new Kiefer Sutherland drama, Touch . Vulture hears Ian Gomez, currently playing Christa Miller's hirsute hubby Andy on ABC's Tuesday comedy, has landed a guest role on an upcoming episode of Touch . He'll play Wade, a tsunami survivor who becomes obsessed with digging up objects from debris and returning them to their owners. The episode is set to air in May, which is right around the time ABC will decide the fate of Cougar Town . Hopefully, Gomez won't have time for too many more guest roles next fall.

'Touch': Jake Connects The Lives, Martin Saves A Jumper (VIDEO)

Back now for its official series premiere -- though this is the second episode after a preview of the pilot aired back on January 25 -- FOX was hoping a powerful "American Idol" lead-in will lead to continued success for Keifer Sutherland's return to television in " Touch " (Thu., 9 p.m. ET on Fox). This episode established the "procedural" nature of the story, with another slew of seemingly random lives interconnecting in ways that only the mute Jake can see. His father Martin (Sutherland) then follows the clues with no clear idea of where they're leading. It's a complex structure appreciated by the Vancouver Sun , who says it is "calculated to surprise and delight." In this case it took him to a pawn shop and a man named Klepper who'd been diagnosed with cancer. His story ultimately connected with an Indian boy seeking to spread his father's ashes at Yankee stadium, a woman at the airport Martin works at, a peanut vendor from the ballpark and the son of the mafia guy the peanut vendor owes money to. Oh, and there's the mafia guy's dog who literally runs throughout the narrative. It's a complex weave, but it culminates in Martin saving Klepper from jumping off a bridge, just in time to find out he's not alone as the woman from the airport runs up, and it's the daughter he thought didn't want to be a part of his life. Thus weaves the continuing complexity of "Touch" every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser.

'Touch' 1.03 Preview: The Mystery Is Just Beginning

In the 'Safety in Numbers' episode, Martin comes in contact with a homeless man who possesses the same obsession with numbers as Jake, and emotions run high for Clea.

'Touch's' Kiefer Sutherland: Jack Bauer, he's not

As counterterrorist agent Jack Bauer in the hit FOX series "24," Kiefer Sutherland played a man who had to keep his feelings inside in order to save the world. In his new FOX series, "Touch" -- which had a preview on Jan. 25 and has its regular time-slot premiere on Thursday, March 22 -- Sutherland's character, Martin Bohm, is still having a global impact, but his methods couldn't be more different.Calling in from a location near Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Sutherland says, "Jack Bauer, as a character, is so repressed; that was his job. His job was to be able to pocket his emotions, so he could take on what was seemingly an insurmountable task."Martin is almost the opposite, where his emotions are very much out front. He has a very simple desire, which is to develop, as he perceives it, as normal as possible a relationship with his son. What he finds out,...

The Strategy Behind The Launch of Kiefer Sutherland's Touch

Viewers were touched last week by Kiefer Sutherland's new drama — but will viewers return on March 19 for the encore? Fox execs admit their launch strategy for Touch is a bit of a gamble, but they've been here before. The Touch roll-out is similar to how Fox debuted Glee in 2009 — airing a sneak preview behind American Idol before waiting several months for a fall launch. (The gap between preview and premiere for Touch will not be nearly as long as the four-month gap for Glee .) Fox also struck gold this fall by offering sneak previews of New Girl on multiple online platforms several weeks before the show's proper launch.

TV ratings: 'American Idol,' 'Touch' preview solid for FOX Wednesday, 'CSI' up for Marg Helgenberger's goodbye

Fast national ratings for Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012"American Idol" was predictably down some from its premiere last week, but Wednesday's episode was still far and away the highest-rated show of the night. It also gave a preview airing of FOX's new drama "Touch" a pretty good launchpad.Elsewhere, Marg Helgenberger's "CSI" farewell gave the show its best ratings of the season, but "Are You There, Chelsea?" took a hit for NBC.FOX delivered 15.7 million viewers and a 9.0 rating/14 share in households for the night, winning by a comfortable margin over CBS (11.9 million, 7.6/12). ABC (4.4 million, 2.9/5) finished a distant third with a night of repeats. NBC took fourth with 4 million viewers and a 2.7/4, and The CW (1.1 million, 0.7/1) trailed.FOX also easily led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 5.2 rating. CBS came in second with a 2.9. ABC's 1.5 was good enough for third, topping NBC (1.3) and The CW...
