TV Ratings: Football dominates, but Andy Rooney's final '60 Minutes' draws a crowd

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011.The football is in full swing, and with that, NBC's domination of Sunday ratings continue. The match-up wasn't a terribly tight game between the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets, but it's still football, and that's often good enough.Perhaps the biggest winner of the night was "60 Minutes" which boasted an audience bump of 6 million viewers over last week, mostly due to the retirement of their famed commentator Andy Rooney. The other interesting story to follow was the performance of ABC's new retro-drama "Pan Am." The show slid from last week's 10.9 million viewers to 7.7 million this week. NBC led the night with 14.6 million viewers and a 8.9 rating/14 share in households. CBS followed with 12.9 million (8.0/13). ABC took third with 7.6 million (4.7/7). FOX was in last with 5.8 million (3.3/5).NBC also led the adults 18-49 demographic, with a 5.9 rating. CBS... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/10/fast-national-ratings-for-sunday.html

Andy Rooney ends run as '60 Minutes' regular commentator

After a career with "60 Minutes" that's lasted 43 years, Andy Rooney will end his career this Sunday (Oct. 2) as a regular contributor to the CBS news magazine.Rooney, 92, has been with the show since its inception in 1968 and began his weekly commentary in 1978. Since then, he's given 1,096 essay on everything from coffee to fan mail to the economy. But his 1,097th will be his last weekly musing."There's nobody like Andy and there never will be. He'll hate hearing this, but he's an American original," says Jeff Fager, "60 Minutes" executive producer. The program has been under continual pressure to target a younger audience, which they've been addressing with additions like Byron Pitts, Lara Logan and Anderson Cooper.Questions about Rooney's role emerged after he was absent from his normal end-of-show slot during the show's season premiere on Sunday (Sept. 25). Now it appears Rooney's time with the show is basically over.... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/09/andy-rooney-ends-run-as-60-minutes-regular-commentator.html

TV Ratings: NBC's NFL match-up eclipses the Emmys

The 63rd annual Emmy broadcast may have been a hit with the 10 million viewers who tuned in for all or part of the show, but the TV love-fest was utterly crushed by NBC's Sunday night football matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons. In Emmy's defense, the game was of particular interest because it marked quarterback Michael Vick's return to his old home town for the first time since he was fired by the Falcons in the wake of that whole dog-fighting scandal. The Eagles/Falcons game drew 17.8 million viewers with a 10.9 rating/17 share for the night. FOX's Emmy broadcast trailed way behind with 10.3 million viewers (6.4/10). We should also point out that Emmy's numbers were down from last year, too -- when the broadcast drew 13.5 million viewers. CBS' came in third with 8.7 million (5.6/9), while ABC finished last with 5.1 million viewers (3.3/5).It's no surprise that football also... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/09/tv-ratings-nbcs-nfl-match-up-eclipses-the-emmys.html
