Some recent ratings highlights: * America's Got Talent on Tuesday tallied an audience of 11.3 million total viewers - a drop of 12 percent from its previous premiere, but still the night's most watched program. Its second outing dipped 8 percent, to 10.39 mil. * ABC's The Superstars opened to a not-entirely-super 4.34 mil on Tuesday. In turn, the (thankfully) already-renewed Better Off Ted only managed 1.87 mil. Take a quiz on reality competition shows * On Wednesday, ABC's Wipeout scored 7.7 mil, topping So You Think You Can Dance in the 8 o'clock hour. All told, Fox's Dance averaged 7.5 mil over its two-hour run, down 880K week-to-week. * I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! at long last signed off, before a crowd of 4.4 mil. That's a 31 percent plunge from its season premiere. * NBC's The Philanthropist premiered to 7.4 mil, besting both a CSI: NY repeat and ABC's special on President Obama's health care plan (4.7 mil). * Late Show with David Letterman last week topped The Tonight Show in viewers (averaging 3.46 mil vs. 3.32 mil). That's the first time that has happened for a full week of original broadcasts since December 2005. Source Here
As ABC starts ridding its inventory of the canceled shows - and there are a lot - the alphabet network is set to air the remaining episodes of shows that were taken off schedule in the last month or so. Among them is comedy Better Off Ted , but unlike Pushing Daisies or Eli Stone , the geeky workplace comedy will be returning for its sophomore season. On the episode called "You Are the Boss of Me," Lem (Malcolm Barrett) and Phil (Jonathan Slavin) reluctantly invite Ted (Jay Harrington) to their Medieval Fight Club, since their boss finds himself with time on his hands while his ex-wife tends to their daughter. Phil is excited, but Lem is suspect about trying to be friends with his boss, comparing it to a ventriloquist offering to pal around with his dummy. As it turns out, they have reason to be concerned since Ted gets way too into the Medieval Fight Club, and even takes advantage of his role as boss to keep them in line when they object. Elsewhere, Linda (Andrea Anders) tries to befriend Veronica (Portia de Rossi). The episode is the first of the six episodes that Better Off Ted didn't air when it went off the air - for whatever reason - in late May. Why these leftover Better Off Ted episodes are airing only now despite being renewed, critics say it's because the comedy was a surprise renewal primarily because the ratings have not been kind to the show, and ABC has been known to cut short promising series because it isn't being seen by enough eyes. Yesterday, I got a chance to speak with Jay Harrington who plays Ted on Better Off Ted . If you have seen the show, then you know how funny it is. Jay Harrington talked about what it feels like to be back for a second season, who his favorite character is on the show, his uncoming guest starring role on Burn Notice and more. Better Off Ted - ABC's satirical office comedy which many of you have insisted has only gotten better and better - will be making a return to the network sooner than we initially thought. 6 episodes aired this Spring, and while the series has now been renewed, 13 had already been produced! Therefore, there are 7 remaining episodes that are part of Season 1, which it has now been announced will begin airing on Tuesday, June 23rd at 9PM. Following this, the series will take a break and return to ABC Midseason next year for its second season. Source: TV By the Numbers
We reported earlier in the week that ABC was leaning towards bringing back Scrubs for a 9th season. While judging by everyone's comments, the majority of you were also ready to say goodbye to the show, ABC seems to disagree. Yesterday, they greenlit the show for a 9th season. As reported earlier, Braff will return for 6 episodes, though Sarah Chalke has not yet secured a similar deal. John C. McGinley, Donald Faison and Neil Flynn will return as regulars, assuming the various pilots to which they are attached do not get picked up. The network has also renewed midseason shows Castle and surprisingly, the low-rated Better Off Ted . Which series are you most happy will be returning? Sources: THR and Variety
The Better Off Ted finale meant to air last Wednesday was bumped for an Obama press conference, so it's airing on a special day this week: Tuesday at 8:30/7:30c on ABC! In the finale, Veronica works on improving morale at the company and reinventing herself as someone more likable after a survey reveals that the staff is miserable. Meanwhile, Ted tries to win over an older demographic in the first-season finale. Merrin Dungey. From TV Squad: "On the basis of this video alone, ABC should renew Better Off Ted . President Obama's prime time press conference interrupted a new episode of the show last night, and now the show (actually, the company on the show, Veridian Dynamics) responds to the President and explains why he shouldn't have interrupted the episode." Veridian Dynamics: When Presidents Talk RachelL: Perhaps I misjudged this show. This is very clever! Source
