TV ratings: 'Modern Family' and 'Blue Bloods' lead a quiet Christmas night

Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013The country had better things to do on Christmas night than park itself in front of the TV, and ratings were unsurprisingly low across the board for the broadcast networks as they all aired full slates of repeats. The night's top performers were "Blue Bloods" on CBS, which led the viewer race, and "The Middle" and "Modern Family" on ABC, which had the best 18-49 performance in primetime.CBS averaged 4.6 million viewers and a 2.8 rating/5 share in households. NBC (3 million, 1.9/4) came in second, beating out ABC's 2.7 million viewers and 1.6/3. FOX (1.4 million, 0.9/2) finished fourth, and The CW (903,000, 0.5/1) trailed.None of the broadcast nets made it to a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49. ABC led the way with a 0.9, followed by NBC at 0.7. CBS scored a 0.6, FOX a 0.4 and The CW a 0.3.Wednesday hour by hour:8 p.m.CBS: "I Love... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/12/tv-ratings-modern-family-and-blue-bloods-lead-a-quiet-christmas-night.html

Fast national ratings for Friday, December 20, 2014While most networks were in full holiday rerun mode or airing holiday special, CBS' new episodes of "Hawaii Five-0" and "Blue Bloods," along with the special colorized version of the "I Love Lucy" Christmas special helped the network take Friday night. 'Blue Bloods' Season 4 fall finale: 'Ties That Bind' hurt Danny

Holiday reunions are meant to be pleasurable, but in Danny Reagan's case, it's not exactly a shock such an encounter would keep him on the job.The NYPD detective (Donnie Wahlberg) initially enjoyed welcoming his childhood friend Mickey (guest star Tom Cavanagh) back home in "Ties That Bind," the last 2013 episode of CBS' "Blue Bloods." In the tale by series co-executive producer Brian Burns, Mickey and wife Connie (guest star Rebecca Budig) relocated from Florida back to New York to help care for her ill mother.Looking out his window and admiring Mickey's Mercedes, Danny also saw a supposed electric-company van he immediately "made" as a surveillance vehicle. At work the next day, Danny was shown photos by the detective who conducted the stakeout -- and who inferred that presumed Realtor Mickey actually was connected to one of Florida's top crime families.Frank (Tom Selleck) paid a hospital visit to an officer wounded in the line of... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/12/blue-bloods-season-4-fall-finale-ties-that-bind-hurt-danny.html

'Blue Bloods' fall finale: Len Cariou appreciates the higher profile

Zap2it: The weekly family dinner scene is such a staple of "Blue Bloods," what do you remember about filming the very first one?Len Cariou: Actors are incredible beings, I think, and we thought we had to figure out a history for ourselves [as the characters]. While they were setting up shots, we were yapping about Donnie's (Wahlberg) and Will's (Estes). We all have a wonderful relationship, and I think the show has a uniqueness because of those very scenes at the dinner table. We get to know the family as more than cops, everybody is wonderful in their roles, and it's a very pleasant working situation.Zap2it: Henry has gotten to draw on his police commissioner past quite a bit in recent episodes. Are you pleased with what's been revealed?Len Cariou: That's the good history of the piece, and it gives the writers something to draw on. And that also makes it ongoing fun for me. 'Blue Bloods' Season 4, episode 10: A bombing sparks a case of 'Mistaken Identity'

After a two-week break, it didn't take long for the Reagans to be in the thick of action again on "Blue Bloods."In "Mistaken Identity," Friday's (Dec. 13) episode of the CBS police drama, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) went with partner Maria (Marisa Ramirez) to investigate the bombing of a mosque. An imam (Alok Tewari) informed the cops it wasn't the first trouble for the site, and he suspected neighbors feared a religion they didn't understand."Haters gonna hate," Maria reasoned, though a gang symbol had been left in one of the incidents. The detectives went to quiz gang leader Kevin (Gregory Cook), who displayed more than a trace of attitude -- directly insulting Maria, who cautioned him about police rules for dealing with "verbally abusive suspects," then made a direct knee-to-crotch "connection" with him.An apparent witness cleared Kevin, but surprised Danny and Maria by claiming the bomber had been wearing Muslim attire. "Why would a Muslim want... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/12/blue-bloods-season-4-episode-10-a-bombing-sparks-a-case-of-mistaken-identity.html

'Blue Bloods' Len Cariou dinner scene trick: 'If you're really clever, you don't have to eat at all'

As long as the members of television's Reagan family gather to eat each week, Len Cariou always will know where his next meal is coming from.As patriarch and former New York police commissioner Henry Reagan, the stage and screen veteran is guaranteed his moment in every episode of the Friday CBS police drama "Blue Bloods." That's true even if Henry's relatives feed him in the hospital -- as happened one Thanksgiving -- and Cariou finds such scenes special for several reasons."We're usually done by lunch," he tells Zap2it. "Because of the kids, we film [those scenes] early. It's the biggest scene in any episode, so it usually takes the most time because you have to cover everybody film-wise. Everybody looks forward to it, though, because we have that time together every week."Cariou believes those scenes appeal to viewers because "they all did this at one time in their lives, sitting around the dinner table with... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/12/blue-bloods-len-cariou-dinner-scene-trick-if-youre-really-clever-you-dont-have-to-eat-at-all.html
