In light of last night's Emmys, it's hard to be too upset when new series like Modern Family and Glee got some freshman love... not to mention the many much-deserved wins for the recurring favorites like Breaking Bad and Mad Men ! But for every epic win, there are 5 folks who went home empty-handed and hundreds of others who weren't even nominated in the first place! But don't fret -- while there might not be enough Emmy trophies to go around, there's plenty of room for glory in this round of my Picks of the Week! So without further ado, consider catching up on some of the year's big Emmy snubs, whether nominated and shafted, or totally left out of the running! 1. United States of Tara 2. Bored to Death 3. I will be the first to admit that my enjoyment of Bored to Death is at least partly based in personal bias. I live in Brooklyn, and while HBO is heavy on shows that love my borough (In Treatment, Boardwalk Empire and Flight of the Conchords all shot there, at least in part), Bored to Death is the Brooklyniest of them all. It's suffused with Brooklyn slacker charm (lessness, depending on how well you like Brooklyn slackers) and uses so many locations I fully expect to find them shooting in my living room someday. No, Bored to Death isn't canceled yet. In fact, the much-unappreciated HBO comedy is set to return for its second season this September, and the cabler has released a short teaser as appetizer. Zach Galifianakis, who had since gathered mainstream attention thanks to The Hangover, is back as the loser-y but good-natured sidekick of protagonist Jonathan Ames, played by Jason Schwartzman. Bacon makes everything better. The HBO comedy Bored to Death will feature the inimitable Kevin Bacon in a fall episode of the upcoming second season. The actor (left) will be playing himself, or, according to series creator Jonathan Ames, a very fictional version of himself. On the next all new episode of HBO 's new comedy series Bored to Death , "The Case of the Stolen Skateboard": Jonathan falls for his latest client (Parker Posey), the mother of a boy whose skateboard was stolen. Ray helps out a lesbian couple who wants to start a new family. George tries to woo a young publicist at the opening of a new restaurant in Brooklyn. HBO has a video preview which you can watch here
While attending a New York film society function, George introduces Jonathan to a filmmaker, who asks him to rewrite a screenplay. Later, he goes out with a party girl and leaves the script at her home, which happens to be a shrink's office. Jonathan asks Ray to pose as a patient to recover the script. HBO is still interested in Bored to Death : The freshman comedy has been renewed for a second season. The pickup comes days after the show saw a ratings high of 1.1 million on Sunday, when it followed Curb Your Enthusiasm 's Seinfeld reunion episode. Since its Sept. 20 debut, Bored to Death's pilot has been seen by 4.1 million viewers with repeats factored in. Bored to Death stars Jason Schwartzman as a writer-turned-investigator. Source Here
