Californication Reviews & Ratings

30 minutes

Sophisticated and unique, this comedy centers on novelist Hank Moody (David Duchovny) who struggles to raise his 12-year-old daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin), while still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend Karen (McElhone). His obsession with truth-telling and self-destructive behavior -- drinks, drugs and relationships -- are both destroying and enriching his career.

Really addicting, by all means. Maybe it has a little bit masculine cut because it's basically sex, drugs and rock n roll all time.

This was some epic stuff. Plenty of debauchery, lovely music, quite interesting characters.

I recall marathoning the first three seasons of this show several years ago and falling deeply in love with the reality it presented: that things just don't always work out. Not because you don't deserve them to (though that is questionable in Hank's case–he didn't do much to deserve anything good), but because sometimes, life simply isn't all about you, and other people may get what they want while you don't. This show is just about life happening, and it's not always pretty. I wasn't thrilled by the last season or the series finale, but I miss the characters desperately. They were flawed, but real. They were intelligent, but prone to idiocy (as we all are). They lived a life so different from my own, with sometimes quite extreme dilemmas, but they remained relatable as they tried to navigate their existence in an environment bent on tearing them apart. I miss Hank and his utterly self destructive ways. I really do.

The film is a dramedy perfect, funny dialogues, alcohol, or love affairs that Hank Moody takes part in each episode are simply a 'smokescreen' for the really important things that matter in life, an example being the father-daughter ( Hank Moody and Becca Moody) or emotions, feelings, temptations and with which we meet \ 'we hit' every life everyday, but why I love this show so much for these situations daily day are treated in a note quite funny \ amusing. The show is sharp, arrogant, funny, ironic, mature (immature, the comic situation but only apparently for the situations that show their addresses are topics situations '' serious '' serious life everyday, etc.) . I 'grew up' 'with' 'X-Files' 'and therefore the' David Duchovny '' but his performance on the show is absolutely sensational (type face '' waves '' regardless of series that appears or the subject that it tackles) both show and performance lu 'David Duchovny is a delight to watch.

Even though this series has too much sex, swearing and drugs, the main character is likeable

Hank Moody the incarnation of the original alpha male... great to watch intoxicated at night with a female companion as a after party show ;)
