'Community': What do Levar Burton and Troy have in common?

How thrilled were you to find that NBC's "Community" pulled another act of metariority (that's "meta superiority," Britta) by bringing on Levar Burton to guest star as himself. He was Pierce's (Chevy Chase) evil bequeathal to Troy (Donald Glover) and part of the old man's master plan to make the study group pay for under-appreciating him.Of course, Levar Burton deserves Troy's frightened stare. After all, he's the man. Who's Levar Burton? Well, in the "Community" world he was known for three things: "Reading Rainbow," "Star Trek: The Next Generation," and for playing the role of Kunta Kinte in the ABC miniseries, "Roots." Most viewers probably know him from "Roots." "Roots" basically made him a household name. But, the sci-fi geek in us most loves him as Geordi La Forge, the Enterprise's Chief Engineer. And you know what, there's one thing about that character that reminds us of Troy and Abed (Danny Pudi). Geordi's bromance with the awkward... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/02/community-the-many-faces-of-levar-burton.html

Yvette Nicole Brown on Her 'Community' Pregnancy, Stalking Guest Stars and Obsessive Twitter Fans

In the world of 'Community,' getting your dream guest star on the show can be easy as asking. Star Yvette Nicole Brown actively campaigned for her character Shirley's husband, Andre, to be played by Malcolm-Jamal Warner. And just like that, it happened! "Lord knows I talked about him enough on the set in the first season," Brown told me when she stopped by TV Squad's offices recently to dish about the NBC comedy (Thursdays, 8PM ET). "The idea that they actually listened to my foolishness and my campaigning and brought this wonderful man on set has made me happy beyond belief." http://www.tvsquad.com/2011/02/17/yvette-nicole-brown-community-interview/

'Community' EP Dan Harmon toots, we mean tweets, script page

Little known fact: A small group of media outlets visited the set of "Community" last year and there was a tremendous amount of farting jokes being made. We bring this up, because that conversation suddenly feels very prescient. The NBC show's executive producer Dan Harmon tweeted a script page with Annie (played by Alison Brie) and Britta (Gillian Jacobs) full on talking about and engaging in the act of farting. They weren't alone in their merry-making. There was also a character named "Twilight." And there were some extra elements like a little anti-government sentiment and a huge explosion that, you guessed it, farts, included in the scene supposedly to be shot Monday (Feb. 14).Check out the script page in question below:Uptight viewers, guys who'd rather not see the beautiful actresses fart, government sympathizers, and all you "Twilight" werewolf-loving fans, calm down. Sources close to the production tell us it's not a real script page. Well, to quote them exactly, they... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/02/community-ep-dan-harmon-toots-we-mean-tweets-script-page.html

'Community': Pierce as villain?

By the beard of Gary Gygax, I really enjoyed last night’s Community . It always seems to be the episodes that take a small conceit and blow it up into something crazy and wonderful that work the best for me. Paintball becomes all-out war, a lost pen sets off a bottle episode that teaches us the phrase “bottle episode,” and a game of Dungeons & Dragons   becomes a magical quest of sorcery and sarcasm. Which is really what D&D ‘s all about anyway. (Not that I played it, I wasn’t a nerd. Plus, I was too busy with all my super-awesome cool-kid stuff like, um,   Magic the Gathering   and preparing for the Mathlympics.) 'Community's' Donald Glover on 'Dungeons & Dragons': 'It's fun to play God'

"Community" is coming out of a string of themed episodes and giving us another so-called "bottle episode" on Thursday's (Feb. 3) episode. This time they're going into "Dungeons & Dragons" territory in order to help a suicidal classmate, Fat Neil, find his happy again. We were on-set during the shooting of the episode and had a chance to talk to Donald Glover (in the anthropology classroom!), who says he didn't play the role-playing game as a kid, because he wasn't allowed to."['Dungeons & Dragons' sounds] so awesome," Glover tells Zap2it. "To have a character for a long time and build it. There's something about all those things like Pokémon, Nano Pets, you're just playing God. And it's fun to play God for a little bit."For Glover, who grew up Jehovah's Witness, anything that had to do with magic wasn't allowed. The interesting part is Glover's character, Troy, is also Jehovah's Witness in the show. So, how does... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/02/communitys-donald-glover-on-dungeons-and-dragons-its-fun-to-play-god.html
