Derek Hough leaves 'Dancing With the Stars' for Season 12

Three-time "Dancing With the Stars" winner Derek Hough has announced that he's bowing out of the show for the upcoming 12th season, People reports. Hough is taking the time off to shoot dance movie "Cobu 3D" in New York and Toronto this spring."I'm taking season 12 off," Hough confirms. "I will be making it back to 'Dancing With the Stars' in the fall. I'm just taking a little break and taking this chance to grow and expand a little bit as an artist. It's like I told one of the producers on the show - I'll come back with a whole new set of skills." DWTS Hoofer Derek Hough to Guest on Better With You

Joining Larry King in a March episode of ABC's Better With You  will be another acting novice trying his hand at comedy. Popular  Dancing With the Stars  pro Derek Hough has been cast to play a dancing instructor named Phillip. After realizing bride-to-be Mia (JoAnna Garcia) has two left feet in Phillip's dance class rehearsals for their first wedding dance, Mia's fiancé Casey (Josh Cooke) purposely tanks to make her look better for the group.  Luckily the uber critical  DWTS  judges aren't expected to pop in to rate their performances.

'Dancing With the Stars' may not be looking to feature a same-sex couple in season 11 next spring after one big star -- actress Portia de Rossi, wife of Ellen DeGeneres -- reportedly declined to be the show's guinea pig According to PopEater's Rob Shuter, because 'Arrested Development' star de Rossi (who goes by Portia DeGeneres now) rejected the offer, the megahit reality series will wait on breaking the same-sex dancing barrier.  "If Portia had agreed then this would have been a done deal," an ABC insider told Shuter. Jennifer Grey to Undergo Surgery for Dancing Injury

Newly crowned Dancing with the Stars champ Jennifer Grey will soon undergo surgery for a disc she ruptured in her back during competition. "I'm probably going to have surgery this week or sometime next week," the 50-year-old actress told Access Hollywood. Grey downplayed the seriousness of the operation. "It's just going to be like a little surgery where they take out the ruptured disc thing," she said. "Compared to the other surgeries I had on my neck, my doctor says it won't be a big deal." The Dirty Dancing star had extensive surgery on her neck after she was in a car crash with then-boyfriend (and Ferris Bueller co-star) Matthew Broderick in 1987.
