Dancing With the Stars Backstage Report: Ralph Macchio Fights Through the Pain

Ralph Macchio limped off the Dancing With the Stars stage Monday night, hobbled by Baker's cyst, a painful build-up of joint fluid behind the knee, most often brought on by arthritis or overuse of the joint. "I'm trying to do all the right things," says Macchio, wincing when he puts weight on that right leg. "One of them is to stay off of it for three to five days. I don't have three to five days"... http://www.tvguide.com/News/Dancing-Stars-Ralph-Macchio-1032919.aspx?rss=breakingnews

'DWTS' Backstage Q&A: Will Ralph Macchio's Injury Cost Him a Place in the Semi-Finals?

Ralph Macchio gave a performance last night on 'Dancing With the Stars' that would have done Mr. Miyagi proud. Recovering from a painful Baker's cyst, the actor, who starred in the 'Karate Kid' movies, managed to perform two difficult dances, a waltz and a cha cha, despite his injury. Alas, he and partner Karina Smirnoff scored the lowest of the night with a total of 46 points, trailing leaders Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas by 9 points. Macchio, Kane and the other three remaining season 12 celebrities -- Kirstie Alley, Romeo and Hines Ward -- walked the post-show press line in order to share their thoughts on their performances and just how badly they all want to make next week's coveted semifinals. http://www.tvsquad.com/2011/05/10/dancing-with-the-stars-ralph-macchio-injury-backstage/

'Dancing With the Stars': Kirstie Alley's weight loss down to 'Oprah reveal' level

As it's been the case for most of her recent career, discussion of Kirstie Alley's participation on "Dancing With the Stars" almost always turns to weight. The 60-year-old actress' size has wildly fluctuated over the years, and though she's lost a noticeable amount since she first stepped out at the "DWTS" announcement, she's still not saying a number. She says she hasn't weighed herself, but we think she's just being coy. It's not that she won't talk about it, though. Zap2it was backstage after the week 8 performance show when Kirstie opened up about her size, saying she's down to the weight she was when she famously stepped out on the stage of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 2006, clad only in a bikini. "I think I'm at that right now," she says. "But I need to be less than that. When I saw the Oprah deal, I thought, this looks like a rappers' girlfriend...... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/05/dancing-with-the-stars-kirstie-alleys-weight-loss-down-to-oprah-reveal-level.html

'Dancing With the Stars': Ralph Macchio's cha cha lacks 'hip action'

You know it's not good when Nick Jonas can only muster up a polite golf clap and forced smile (see picture to the left).Ralph Macchio showed a lot of heart when he danced through an injury on "Dancing With the Stars" on May 2. Unfortunately, sometimes heart just isn't enough.Ralph picked a pretty tough week to suffer an injury as the instant dance was added to the mix. The instant dance is where the couple learns the music they will be dancing to only 20 minutes before they have to perform. No easy task.In their pre-performance package, both Ralph and his professional partner Karina Smirnoff expressed their concern about the dance as the "Karate Kid" star could barely walk with his injury. Unfortunately, his injury hindered the couple's cha cha and Ralph's "hip action." The audience still seemed to love their performance and the judges applauded Ralph's dedication. After the performance, Ralph said, "That was... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/05/dancing-with-the-stars-ralph-macchios-cha-cha-lacks-hip-action.html

'Dancing with the Stars' Romeo and Chelsea Hightower's instant salsa

For their second "Dancing with the Stars" performance of Monday (May 9) evening, Romeo and partner Chelsea Hightower drew the song "Tequila." Good thing the dance they'd practiced was the salsa. Somehow tequila and salsa just go together. After a hilarious intro montage in which we're treated to Chelsea taking Romeo to a "real" salsa club to learn a thing or two (Romeo: "Do you wanna salsa with me?"), the couple took the floor and -- if you ask us -- totally nailed it.Judge Carrie Ann Inaba didn't agree, saying "There was something a little off. It was a little out of sync. Needed to be just a little tighter and in sync."True, the pair did lose their momentum briefly.Bruno Tonioli, too, pointed out the mistake: "Salsa is all about fluidity of movement, so when you lose it -- you covered it very well -- but we have to point that out."There were some nuances in... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/05/dancing-with-the-stars-romeo-and-chelsea-hightowers-instant-salsa.html

'Dancing with the Stars': Hines and Kym's "Chantilly Lace" jive

On Monday (May 9), we were treated to not one, but two, dances from the remaining "Dancing with the Stars" contenders because of the added "instant dance." The couples knew ahead of time what dance they would dance, but didn't find out until after their first dance of the evening what song would accompany their moves.Although their dance came off a little bit stiff in the beginning, Hines Ward and Kym Johnson soon warmed up to the rhythm. "You totally relaxed into the moment," said judge Carrie Ann Inaba. "You let the audience lift you up.""All work and no play makes a good dancer and I can tell you worked hard this week," added Len Goodman. "This is a real tough dance and you've done a fantastic job."The instant dance earned Hines and Kym 26 points, bringing the couple up to 54/60 for the night. 'Dancing With the Stars': Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas' salsa 'sets the bar very high'

"Dancing With the Stars" fans, we're happy to report Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas survived their instant dance. What is the instant dance, you ask? The instant dance is where the couple doesn't know the music they will be dancing to until 20 minutes before. No pressure.Chelsea was particularly nervous about the instant dance as she usually learns her dance according to the beats in the song. Luckily, Mark and Chelsea's salsa fit their music pretty well and the couple performed a high-energy routine with a high level of difficulty.Tom Bergeron, the ever-observant host, pointed out the jumped cue in the beginning of their dance which didn't throw Chelsea and Mark off. Five points to Bergeron for being awesome! While we thought the routine was pretty good, one of the judges did have a pretty negative thing to say about it, which united the other two judges.Len Goodman: "Let me tell you something: You've done... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/05/dancing-with-the-stars-chelsea-kane-and-mark-ballas-salsa-sets-the-bar-very-high.html

'Dancing With the Stars': Kirstey Alley, Maksim Chmerkovskiy's 'hot' tango

"Your feet are very slow so move your a**. And by your a**, I mean your feet."And quote of the night goes to Maksim Chmerkovskiy! Maks said this to his "Dancing With the Stars" celebrity partner Kirstie Alley on Monday, May 9. Kirstie and Maks were at the bottom of the leader board last week and were in danger of going home, which the judges attributed to her lackluster jive. "The pressure is on," Kirstie said.Kirstie suffered a few falls during rehearsals due to her dieting. After her second fall (off a three-step platform), Maks asked how many calories she has been eating. "1,400 calories," she said before Maks suggested she eat more. After their performance, Kirstie said, "I wasn't intentionally not eating. I forgot!"Luckily, all of their hardships paid off as the audience loved their aggressive Argentinian tango. But what did the judges think?Len Goodman: "The tango is all about creating a mood. You've... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/05/dancing-with-the-stars-kirstey-alley-maksim-chmerkovskiys-hot-tango.html

'Dancing with the Stars': Ralph Macchio overcomes injury to wow with his waltz

Ralph Macchio is clearly in it to win it. It being "Dancing with the Stars." The guy has got focus like nobody's business. But this week his focus -- and his dance moves -- were seriously challenged by an injury. But despite that injury (a Baker's Cyst) and only nine hours (instead of the usual 40) of practice, Macchio and partner Karina Smirnoff turned out a broodingly hot Viennese Waltz. Even if they did dance it to the Scorpions' "Maybe I, Maybe You."Sure the smoke machine hid some of the footwork and Macchio's gelled-into-standing-up hair and creepy stare at the end kind of scared us, but over all the dance was undeniably well done. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba even invoked the "K" words -- "Karate Kid" -- in her critique. "That spirit of Daniel LaRusso lived on tonight," she said. Bruno Tonioli was utterly blown away by the dance."Vampire lovers, dancing from dusk till dawn," intoned... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/05/dancing-with-the-stars-ralph-macchio-overcomes-injury-to-wow-with-his-waltz.html

'Dancing with the Stars': Romeo, Chelsea Hightower wow with their tango

Since the beginning of this season's "Dancing with the Stars," Romeo has gone from novelty participant to true contender. Last week, he and partner Chelsea Hightower faltered on their samba -- but on Monday (May 9), Romeo and Chelsea were back in top form. The pair danced an amazing tango that snagged them a 27 -- a 9 from each judge.Chelsea wore a poured-on Latex dress and Romeo a subtle black suit. But their outfits were beside the point. The two displayed an incredible chemistry. "You're dancing like you really meant it," said judge Carrie Ann Inaba. "I cannot take my eyes off of you. One of your best routines ever." (Though obviously not good enough to give the couple a 10.)Len Goodman agreed, saying, "So far this competition the three [couples] that have come out have been fantastic and you're up there with them."What did you think of Romeo and Chelsea's performance?... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/05/dancing-with-the-stars-romeo-chelsea-hightower-wow-with-their-tango.html
