Downton Abbey Reviews & Ratings

60 minutes

Set in the fictional Downton Abbey, stately home of the Earl of Grantham, early in the reign of King George V, during the two years prior to the Great War and commencing with news of the sinking of the Titanic, an event that triggers much of the storyline. It follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants.

Good acting, pretty good plot but the take forever just to "get to the point". Show feels very draw out and there are too many characters and side plots, making it hard to keep up. If it didn't "go so slow" I would probably watch it.

Nothing happens, and yet you are riveted! Maggie Smith is a goddess.

There are too many characters, the plots are sometimes obnoxiously convoluted, and most of the dialogue is inane, but this is a wonderful show even if you're not usually one for period drama. By the time you figure out who everybody is, you feel like part of the family -- the ups and downs will truly hit you in the heart.

And any review of Downton Abbey would be remiss without mentioning the goddess who is Maggie Smith. The stories in the later seasons might not pack as much of a punch as they used to, but as long as Maggie Smith is on screen it's worth watching.

A superbly executed period Drama, Downton Abbey weaves its way through the early 20th century English peerage while inter-spersing it with the parallel lives of the people who serve them. Wonderful casting and direction!
