Downton Abbey Reviews & Ratings

60 minutes

Set in the fictional Downton Abbey, stately home of the Earl of Grantham, early in the reign of King George V, during the two years prior to the Great War and commencing with news of the sinking of the Titanic, an event that triggers much of the storyline. It follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants.

A superbly executed period Drama, Downton Abbey weaves its way through the early 20th century English peerage while inter-spersing it with the parallel lives of the people who serve them. Wonderful casting and direction!

I'm such a sucker for historical dramas and this one is so fantastic. And surprisingly funny, considering. I can curl up with a cup of tea and a fire in the fireplace and just watch it for hours.

Very enjoyable period drama. The acting and quality of production are top-class.

Didn't get me hooked right away and I'm still not completely loving it. But it's well written and it gives a very convincing look on how the era really was

It's Amazing to see how things were back then. Bit disappointed in mid-season the way things turned out.

The art and the cinematic science of Downton Abbey lie in the multiplicity of characters that we finding ourselves faithfully liking and following throughout the series. All of them, whether humble or regal, live and breathe under the same Twentieth-Century English manor with a wealth of manners and traditions unique to the British.

It's a lovely costume drama. It touches on period events and issues, but stays accessible to the modern viewer. Lots of emotion and drama, but really it's all about the clothes and the places...
