Emmys 2012: How 'Downton Abbey' might affect the drama races

When the Emmy nominations are announced on July 19, you'll probably see quite a few repeat nominees. It's what the Emmys does, to a large extent, and as discussed previously, it's unlikely that any new shows not named "Homeland" will get a bucketful of nominations. There is one returning show, however, that has the potential to shake up several races: "Downton Abbey." PBS' British import is moving from the movie/miniseries field to the drama series categories this year, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the show come close to matching the 11 nominations it received in 2011.If "Downton" scores a big nomination haul, though, that means other shows and performers might get left out in the cold. Pics: 'Downton Abbey' Season 3 wish listHere's a look at how "Downton Abbey" might affect several big drama races at the 2012 Emmys.Drama seriesChances of a "Downton" nomination: Very high. 'Downton Abbey's' Hugh Bonneville comedically takes on the London Olympics with 'Twenty Twelve'

The United Kingdom recently took a big wallow in pomp and pageantry for Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, but there's something mischievous in the British national character that loves nothing more than puncturing targets that have gotten a little full of themselves. That probably explains "Twenty Twelve," the gleeful new BBC America sitcom premiering Thursday, June 28, that casts Hugh Bonneville ("Downton Abbey") as Ian Fletcher, the hapless manager entrusted with coordinating the run-up to the Olympic Summer Games. Left to his own devices, Ian probably would be a charismatic, competent boss, but this current gig forces him to deal constantly with idiots such as "director of branding" Siobhan Sharp (Jessica Hynes, "Spaced"), who babbles endlessly in PR-speak, and Graham Hitchens (Karl Theobald), who is in charge of coordinating logistics yet incapable of understanding why Ian has qualms about his plan to route all Olympic flights through the airspace above U.K nuclear reactors.Filmed mockumentary style like... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/06/downton-abbeys-hugh-bonneville-comedically-takes-on-the-london-olympics-with-twenty-twelve.html

'Downton Abbey' Season 3: Watch Shirley MacLaine's first clip

AFI's Shirley MacLaine Tribute: See Her 'Downton Abbey' Debut Shirley MacLaine was recently honored by the American Film Institute and part of her ceremony included "Downton Abbey" star Elizabeth McGovern introducing a clip of MacLaine guest-starring as McGovern's mother on Season 3 of the show. In the clip, MacLaine's character Martha Levinson arrives at Downton and finds it "too much the same," much to the consternation of Lady Violet, the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith). Martha also remarks how the war made old women of them both, which Lady Violet is sure to love. "Downton Abbey" returns for Season 3 in the fall in the United Kingdom, but us poor folks Stateside will have to wait for January 2013. It seems so far away!... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/06/downton-abbey-season-3-watch-shirley-maclaines-first-clip.html

'Sherlock' and 'Downton Abbey' nominated for Television Critics Awards: See all the 2012 TCA nominees

The Television Critics Awards are generally a good barometer for critical darlings (obviously), so it's no surprise that PBS's highly-buzzed about "Masterpiece" series "Downton Abbey" and "Sherlock" -- both British imports -- made the nominees list this year. "New Girl" and "Girls", as well as creator Lena Dunham, also appear for the first time. That's not to say there weren't any surprises. While highly anticipated, "Smash" was certainly problematic as the season went on, and putting "Lost" up for a Heritage Award seems a bit premature to some.Check out the full list of nominees below. Do you think the TCA made the right calls? Individual Achievement in Drama    Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad," AMC)     Claire Danes ("Homeland," Showtime)     Peter Dinklage ("Game of Thrones," HBO)     Jon Hamm ("Mad Men," AMC)     Jessica Lange ("American Horror Story," FX) Individual Achievement in Comedy     Louis C.K. 'Downton Abbey' Season 3's Shirley MacLaine: 'I'm the American who's for change'

A film and stage veteran and a best-selling author, Shirley MacLaine is happy to accept a Lifetime Achievement Award, like the one the American Film Institute will present her with on Thursday (June 7).This is partially because her career remains so active. She starts filming a remake of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" with Ben Stiller the day after the AFI event, and in January, she'll be seen as Lady Grantham's (Elizabeth McGovern) mother in the third series of the highly acclaimed and popular "Downton Abbey" on PBS."I was addicted to it," MacLaine tells Zap2it, "but not as much as after I knew I was going to do it. Then, I ran every episode and began to analyze why it is such a hit everywhere in the world. Every morning as I was getting dressed, I realized that you had to have two servants then, to get your clothes on. You couldn't do all... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/06/downton-abbey-season-3-shirley-maclaine-im-the-american-whos-for-change.html
