'Downton Abbey' gets the Jimmy Fallon treatment in 'Downton Sixbey'

British drama "Downton Abbey" has taken the U.S. by storm and with it have come a plethora of "Downton" parodies and homages. "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" recently got in on the act as well with "Downton Sixbey."Fallon is James, the Earl of Grantham character, surrounded by a valet, lady's maid O'Flannigan, a Lady Violet, who is a man in drag, and Brooke Shields as his wife Nora and Fred Armisen as Lady Edith. Poor Lady Edith! It's one of the better parodies of the show we've seen, especially because it goes on for over eight minutes, so many facets of the program are able to be included. "Downton Abbey" returns to U.S. airwaves in January 2013.... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/downton-abbey-gets-the-jimmy-fallon-treatment-in-downton-sixbey.html

'Downton Abbey' Season 3: A birth, a death, 'difficult' Maggie Smith

Rebecca Eaton (pictured left, with star Elizabeth McGovern), executive producer of "Masterpiece Classic" on PBS, teased some "Downton Abbey" Season 3 tidbits at a party for Central Florida's new PBS station, WUCF TV. She tells the Orlando Sentinels:"Matthew and Mary do get married.""There are some wonderful scenes between Maggie [Smith] and Shirley MacLaine - Shirley MacLaine being ditsy as ever. And Maggie barely restraining her sneer in having to deal with this American. Maggie Smith is a handful, it's true. She's very difficult. She knows her worth, and she's tricky on the set, but she delivers when the time comes.""Somebody will be born, and somebody will die, somebody pretty key in the cast, unfortunately not going to make it. It's the 1920s now."Goodness! We have so many questions, not the least of which is - does it sound to anyone else like Eaton is really slamming actress Maggie Smith? It sounds at first like she's... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/downton-abbey-season-3-a-birth-a-death-difficult-maggie-smith.html

Emily Procter compares 'CSI: Miami' romance to 'Downton Abbey'

The cool, drizzly weather is most un-Miami-like in Manhattan Beach, Calif., on the set of CBS' Sunday crime drama "CSI: Miami."Just before boxes of hot pizza arrive to drive away the chill, stars Emily Procter and Adam Rodriguez take a break from filming to contemplate the on-again-but-mostly-off-again romance between their respective characters, CSIs Calleigh Duquesne and Eric Delko.Procter, back in fighting trim after having her first child last season, relates the long will-they-or-won't-they wait to a similar situation between two of the characters -- Lady Mary and Matthew -- on her beloved British period drama "Downton Abbey," which airs on PBS' "Masterpiece.""It really bothered me," she says, "until I saw 'Downton Abbey,' and I realized, as a viewer, I loved the carrot on the stick of Mary and Matthew. You're watching people who are right for each other and have been through enough, that you know are eventually going to get together, with just a... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/03/emily-procter-compares-csi-miami-romance-to-downton-abbey.html

'Downton Abbey': Gillian Anderson turned down a role - who was it?

Gillian Anderson has revealed to TV Guide magazine that she was offered a role on the British import hit "Downton Abbey" - and we were a little surprised at which one it was.The interview was done regarding Anderson's upcoming PBS miniseries "Great Expectations." Anderson says of the miniseries, "Hopefully people will embrace it with the same love that flowed toward 'Downton Abbey.' I was actually offered a part in 'Downton.'"And then she confirms the part was none other than Lady Cora, the American female head of Downton, wife to Lord Grantham and mother to ladies Mary, Edith and Sybil. Interesting! The reason we're a little surprised is that Anderson seems just a touch too young for the role. She's seven years younger than Elizabeth McGovern, the actress who plays Lady Cora. Andrson is also only 13 years older than Michelle Dockery, the actress who would've played her oldest daughter. Not that TV shows don't fudge on... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/03/downton-abbey-gillian-anderson-turned-down-a-role---who-was-it.html

'Downton Abbey': Shirley MacLaine wraps Season 3 shooting

The venerable Shirley MacLaine was cast as Lady Cora's American mother, Martha Levinson, for Season 3 of "Downton Abbey," the British import show that has captured American audiences - but it sound as though she has wrapped filming just about three weeks into shooting the season."I'm back in the States now and catching up with my other projects," tweets MacLaine.Of course, we're sure it went swimmingly - the actors have had nothing but raves for her. Allen Leech, who plays Tom Branson, the former chauffer and Lady Sybil's husband on the show, tweets that having MacLaine as part of the Downton family is "amazeballs."We're sure it was. Shirley also gave an interview to Lady magazine that is a good read - though she did the interview before she shot anything, so don't look for any juicy details. She does say of her on-screen counterpart Maggie Smith, "I love her to death ... Intimidating? Certainly not!""Downton... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/03/downton-abbey-shirley-maclaine-wraps-season-3-shooting.html
