When I started watching this episode I thought it would be just another overly dramatacized child-is-dying-but-dr-mike-saves-the-day. And it was, but it was also more than that. What I love about this show is that time and again it brings up topics that were important to the 1860s, were important in the early 1990s and unfortunately and still under debate in late 2010s. They bring about the discussion of the new schoolhouse that would not accept either black or indian children within its walls. While schools are thankfully no longer segregated, the racial debate is still out there and how Beth Sullivan broached the topic was quite wise.
