Elementary is a contemporary update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's character Sherlock Holmes, starring Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson, a female version of Holmes' companion. Here, Holmes is a former consultant to Scotland Yard and a recovering drug addict. He travels to New York City to check into a rehabilitation center and then lives with Watson, who becomes his sober companion and eventually his apprentice.

I love Lucy Liu! I love any kind of procedural, but the level of detail in this makes it particularly engaging.

Love the chemistry between the two main stars. It is good and witty and funny at time. I love this show and I am very happy it has been renewed.

Incredible! Witty. Hilarious. Gripping. Heartwarming. Heartbreaking. Absolutely addictive in every sense. Once you start watching you can't stop. J L Miller is incredible, absolutely amazing. Love Lucy Liu in this. Waiting anxiously for the next episode. Last episode, holy shit what even, no! What??! You can't just leave it on that note! Its not fair! Fucking cliffhangers for africa.

A very smart and innovative adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classics. I prefer this series to the British "Sherlock" for many reasons: first of all, the stories are completely new, they have nothing to do with the originals, the only link with them being Holmes' deductive method of thinking, whereas in Sherlock, the modern adaptation of the tales by being too faithful doesn't always end up very convincing in a 21st century setting (the hound of the Baskervilles, for example, it's just not credible). Besides, since we've all read the original stories (or at least we know approximately how they go), we miss the element of surprise, there is no riddle. It's obviously more entertaining to watch new cases with unexpected denouements, isn't it?

Another awkward thing about the British show is the question of Holmes and Watson's sexual orientation: they always bring up the subject (Watson's always saying "We're not gay"), but they're never clear about it, it's always vague. I wouldn't mind them being gay, but either say so clearly or close the subject. Maybe the writers are afraid to offend their conventional audiences, but in this case they should probably stop hovering around the subject and just drop it. In the American series it's much simpler: Watson is a single attractive woman (Lucy Liu, no less!), so any chance of a romance happening between these two is more than welcome!

Also, the Holmes from Elementary is a realistic depiction of a genius at work, in my opinion: we see him working really hard the cases, spending nights reviewing every single detail, assuming a hypothesis then dropping it, considering another, etc. ... I prefer this version of the genius detective who is a hard worker and goes through a strenuous process before closing a case, as opposed to solving it in two minutes by pure intuition. And finally, a great thing in Elementary is the humor: it's just hilarious when Sherlock comes out extremely blunt and crude, almost obnoxious with people, especially if he's dealing with victims like parents of the deceased or such. I find myself laughing out loud when that happens!

In summary, an excellent series, very smart and entertaining! It's one of my preferred series right now.

Any proper English version is going to be better.
But ... it is enjoyable. SO AOK. Probably another day time TV candidate.
UPDATE: All happens in the last 10 minutes so ...
