Empire Season 3 Episode 18 Review: Toil and Trouble, Part 2

To call the season finale of Empire "eventful" would be the understatement of the season. So much happened over the course of one hour that I think the show's own writers had forgotten what some of the storylines were by the end. At least, that's what the presence of so many plot holes and sloppy storytelling techniques signified to me. It's as though the Empire writers opened the refrigerator and found only a jar of pickles, a freezer-burned carton of chocolate ice cream, and a crusty bottle of ketchup, and decided to throwit all together anyway just to see if they could make something edible out of it. ....Read More...   https://www.tvfanatic.com/2017/05/empire-season-3-episode-18-review-toil-and-trouble-part-2/

Empire Season 3 Episode 17 Review: Toil and Trouble, Part 1

The world that the Lyon family inhabits on Empire is one that most of us will never get to experience: that of a privileged hip-hop dynasty. It's a gold-plated, diamond-encrusted, champagne-soaked world of excess and ambition, rivalry and royalty. I'm willing to accept a lot of the crazy stuff that goes on in this world, because it's one I know I will never experience for myself. To me, it's almost as much of a fantasy as Middle-earth. But sometimes, the show pushes my suspension of disbelief way too far. At its best moments, Empire is absurd enough to be entertaining while still feeling remotely plausible. At its worst, it is downright stupid, eliciting laughs but for all the wrong reasons. ...Read More...   https://www.tvfanatic.com/2017/05/empire-season-3-episode-17-review-toil-and-trouble-part-1/

She started out on the right side of the tracks, but after three kids with Lucious and 17 years served in prison on his behalf, she's developed some rough edges that no amount of money will ever sandpaper away. In this corner, we have Diana Dubois. Her family has loomed over high society in New York for years, but the apex of all their hard work Angelo's impending mayoral election recently crumbled to the ground and left them stranded amongst the ruins. ...Read More...   https://www.tvfanatic.com/2017/05/empire-season-3-episode-16-review-absent-child/
