  There have been optimistic rumblings for years about Flight of the Conchords theNew Zealand comedy-music duo of Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie coming to the big screen, but now it's official. Speaking to Indiewire in a new interview, Clement confirmed that a film is indeed in the works andbeing written by the two Kiwis. "We have actually started writing one," he said. In an interview with The Guardian , Clement let slip that the network had commissioned a brand new, four-episode series from him andsometime Conchords director Taika Waititi, with whom he recently released the indie vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows. Flight of the Conchords Star Bret McKenzie Wanted for The Hobbit

I've been trying to think of an adequate pun. The Hiphobbitopotamus is the best I've got, I think. New Zealand actor Bret McKenzie is no stranger to J.R.R. Tolkein. Though he's more famous for being part of the comedic folk duo Flight of the Conchords along with Jemaine Clement, McKenzie also had a bit role in the Best Picture-winning final entry of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Return of the King . McKenzie's role, named by internet fans as Figwit (standing for "Frodo is great...who is that?") was an elf with only two lines. That role (pictured below left), however, spawned a large fanbase -- and perhaps inspired this music video from season one of the Conchords' HBO comedy series.
