Fullmetal Alchemist Reviews & Ratings

"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth." -Alphonse Elric Edward and Alphonse Elric are two brothers gifted with the ability of alchemy, the science of taking one thing and changing it into another. However, alchemy works on the theory of Equivalent Exchange -- for something to be created, something else of equal value must be sacrificed. When their mother dies, Edward decides to do the unthinkable -- bringing her back to life by breaking one of Alchemy's biggest taboos and performing Human Alchemy.

It started off fine, but then seemed to get weird about halfway through. After I finished the series, I found that the first half of the series was based off of the manga while the last half was "ad-libbed". A few years after this series ended came "Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood", which follows the manga more closely. I'd recommend finishing this series if you're curious as to what happened here, but definitely watch "Brotherhood" to get an overall appreciation.

Amazing! This anime will make you laugh and cry and wonder. I never watched anything similar. It's sci fi like you can only wish for. Everything is well thought of, there are no unexplained events, and when it comes to an ending, it is EPIC!

First anime I ever watched and would highly recommend. Although it doesnt follow the manga completely (brotherhood does) it is a great watch with an awesome ending
