Wow, this is a surprise. I know twitter obsessed fans aren't the best indicators of a show's popularity but GMW has some serious social media love. I guess the nostalgia just wasn't enough.
I knew this was coming from different articles but still I'm upset about it. It was a great show about friendship and life that I think would have been beneficial to the viewers. Plus my nostalgic side is so upset about no more Cory and Topanga. i guess i have to rewatch Boy Meets World again.
This show started out great then got ruined by the whole love triangle thing. Then it got cringey with Maya falling for the whole older boy shtick. That would have worked out better if it was on another network instead of Disney where it could have been tackled better. Then they just made Riley even more childish during season 2 and 3. I stuck with it because of the original cast cameos but after season 1, the show fell for me. Also I hated the fact how they just rushed and threw together Maya's mother and Shawn. The only one that they actually developed better with a storyline was Farkle.
This show was so good. I think the biggest problem was they needed to let go of Boy Meets World. Shawn and Josh should never have been characters on Girl Meets World. The triangle, not a triangle, should never have happened. Riley and Maya should have just became a couple already.
I love this show and as a grown man, I still sing the intro and my wife thinks its cute. Wish it would stay
To be honest, I'm not surprised. Disney's run for TV shows is roughly 2-4 seasons, even if the show was a really big success. Lizzie McGuire (2 seasons and a movie), Even Stevens (3 seasons and a TV movie), That's So Raven (4 seasons), Hannah Montana (4 seasons and a movie). The only show that I can think of from recent years that you can technically say had 6 seasons was The Suite Life (of Zack and Cody had 3 seasons, and On Deck had 3 seasons). I know there are other Disney shows out there, but these are the only ones that I really watched, so I don't know if there are more shows that had longer series or not.
I enjoyed seeing the original cast come back, but I do agree with another person on here that the relationship between Maya's mom and Shawn was too rushed, and I personally felt like it was too forced. It was too...perfect. But all in all, I am going to miss this show. I thought it was cute. Nothing like the original and at times it annoyed me how childish it was, but it is what it is.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! I am really upset about this... where am I going to get my nostalgia and sweet story lines??
Disney...the Fox of children's TV....they don't know a good thing when they see it. Rarely do they do justice to the shows that deserve their focus. This stinks. I loved GMW and I will miss it.
WWHHHHAAAAATTTTT.!!! this sucks.!
After the World Meets Girl episode full of fan love that aired today, it seems like a shock.
im sad to see this go. loved this show and the lessons
Yes I am VERY SAD! Girl Meets World is like my LIFE!! I watch it every week! Girl Meets World will live FOREVER!! ♥
I have to assume that the show just didn't pick up as many new viewers as they would have hoped. More than half of the fans seem to be followers of the original Boy Meets World series. Which, I get that. The show only grasped my attention for this long because of the nostalgia of the older and, in my opinion, better series.
Riley and Maya just aren't "believable" teens. Whilst they may be entertaining, adorable, and extremely talented, they'll never relate to the average viewer in a way that Cory or Shawn could in their time.
Great family show but unfortunately as Disney always does 3 no more than 4 seasons :( Wish it would have been on Nickelodeon instead it would have had a longer shelf life...Yes triangle muddied the show and the Shawn and Maya's mom but the content and theme of the show was really good and great TV for my now 10 year old. She going to be sad when she finds out, we always watch it together. Disney, how about you do something different for a change....
It makes me sad because I really like the show....it's cute, quirky and family friendly!
I hope that maybe netflix will pick it up! That would be awesome!!
