CBS' other comedies also recorded their season-best ratings, and the Eye captured a win for the night. The other broadcast nets also had decent nights. 'How Your Mother Met Me': 'How I Met Your Mother' turns the tables, and it's great

The 200th episode of "How I Met Your Mother" focused almost solely on the Mother -- down to the opening credits, which retitled the show "How Your Mother Met Me." A lot of things could have gone wrong with the episode -- and a couple did -- but thanks to a knockout performance from Cristin Milioti, it worked really well. The biggest potential pitfall lay in depicting Ted and the Mother's near-misses as just a series of zany coincidences, a low-rent "Sliding Doors" that invested no emotional weight in the Mother's story. Fortunately, that didn't happen, and we learned a great deal about the Mother and why she is where she is in the process. It can't be said enough how well Milioti handled the emotional scenes, particularly the moment where she asked her late boyfriend if it would be OK to let him go, finally, nearly eight years after his death. Coupled with her performance of... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/how-your-mother-met-me-how-i-met-your-mother-turns-the-tables-and-its-great.html

'How I Met Your Mother': The yellow umbrella returns in 'How Your Mother Met Me'

The 200th episode of "How I Met Your Mother" will take a trip down memory lane -- although for once, it's not relying on Ted's memory.Monday's (Jan. 27) show, "How Your Mother Met Me," will follow the Mother (Cristin Milioti) and see what she's been up to for the past eight years -- including a few times she almost crossed paths with her future husband, Ted (Josh Radnor). "Cristin is amazing in it, and there are a lot of fun intersections between her life and our gang," co-creator Craig Thomas says. "So our gang is in that episode, but really it's her episode, and I feel that kicks off the endgame of the season and the series where you're going to see more of her and Ted and learn more about them." Among the near misses in Monday's show is a flashback to Season 3's "No Tomorrow," where Ted has a disaster of a night... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/how-i-met-your-mother-the-yellow-umbrella-returns-in-how-your-mother-met-me.html

'How I Met Your Mother' Turns 200: Showrunners Talk Time Travel, Penning the Series Finale

This story first appeared in the Jan. 31 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. How I Met Your Mother has bucked TV convention from the start. Ordered to series in 2005, the telling of one romantic's odyssey to find the woman of his dreams premiered on a schedule that had all but given up on the multicamera setup and canned laughter of traditional sitcoms. But the format allowed the CBS comedy, a modest ratings performer to start, to embrace a distinctive narrative flow of flashbacks, flash-forwards, blink-and-you-miss-them scenes and a carefully maintained canon -- more similar to a serial drama than any half-hour comedy.  Read More...   http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/thr/television/~3/SalJw0kIxZ4/story01.htm

'How I Met Your Mother' cast grows up: 200 episodes and a lot of 'real-life' milestones

When "How I Met Your Mother" premiered in 2005, the sense was that the show had assembled a strong cast, but it wasn't exactly a roster of household names.Alyson Hannigan, two years removed from the end of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," was probably the best-known at the time. Jason Segel had been a part of two cult favorites, "Freaks and Geeks" and "Undeclared," that lasted only one season apiece. Neil Patrick Harris had worked steadily since his "Doogie Howser" days but was a few years removed from his last leading role in the one-and-done NBC sitcom "Stark Raving Mad." Josh Radnor and Cobie Smulders were each taking on their first starring roles on TV.Nearly nine years and 199 episodes later, how things have changed. Smulders is now part of one of the biggest movie franchises on Earth. Segel has appeared in a series of hit movies, a couple of which ("The Muppets" and "Forgetting Sarah... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/how-i-met-your-mother-cast-grows-up-200-episodes-and-a-lot-of-real-life-milestones.html
