How I met your ... scandal? No, we're not talking about a crazy crossover between the hit ABC drama and How I Met Your Mother . The latter series came under fire for a kung fu tribute featured during Monday's episode, "Slapsgiving #3: Slappointment in Slapmarra." CBS chief Nina Tassler jokes that she's "already handing out boxes of Kleenex" in anticipation of the "How I Met Your Mother" series finale in March. She's also pretty eager to see how a spinoff from the show works out. The network is working on "How I Met Your Dad," which will follow a new set of characters and center on a female character's search for love. "HIMYM" creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are co-creating the series with Emily Spivey ("Up All Night").While there won't be any on-screen overlap between "HIMYM" and "How I Met Your Dad," Tassler still considers the new show a spinoff."I think it is a spinoff because it is Carter and Craig -- they brought in Emily Spivey, but the way the show is structured, the way the story is told, the way the characters will come to learn about the dad, it does follow in form like 'How I Met... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/how-i-met-your-mother-cbs-excited-to-see-how-spinoff-comes-together.html
Fast National ratings for Monday, Jan. 13, 2014The time-period premiere of "Intelligence" on CBS Monday fell badly in the ratings, losing more than half the audience from its "NCIS"-aided debut last week. It was a rough end to an otherwise decent ratings night for the Eye -- all four of CBS' comedies were up, and "How I Met Your Mother" scored the night's best 18-49 rating.Elsewhere Monday, "The Blacklist" hit a season low without "The Voice" as a lead-in but still held up reasonably well, winning the 10 p.m. hour across the board. "Sleepy Hollow" was steady for FOX, and "Almost Human" rose some. "The Bachelor" dipped from its premiere last week on ABC.ABC averaged 8.2 million viewers and a 5.4 rating/8 share in households for the night, beating CBS (8 million, 5.0/8) for the top spot. NBC (6.75 million, 3.9/6) took third, and FOX (6.6 million, 4.0/6) was close behind in fourth. The first 2014 episode of "How I Met Your Mother" did not advance the wedding-weekend story in any way. In fact, in terms of time on the wedding weekend, probably no more than 10 minutes elapsed. And it was really funny stuff. "Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra"* was a love-slap to long-time fans of the show, telling the story of the fourth slap in Barney and Marshall's bet. Callbacks aplenty -- including a passel of cameos by exes of Barney's -- and a story that unfolded almost entirely in flashback made this "HIMYM" feel more like vintage "HIMYM" than most episodes in the past season or two have.(*The title is a takeoff on "Appointment in Samarra," a classic story about a man who sees Death and then goes to great lengths to avoid him. Death tells another character he was just surprised to see him, since he has an appointment with him in Samarra the next... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/how-i-met-your-mother-and-the-slap-of-a-million-exploding-suns.html

The 2014 edition of the William S. Paley Television Festival is going to be a good one. The full lineup, announced Wednesday (Jan. 8), features another 10-year reunion -- "Lost," which co-creator J.J. Abrams and star Michael Emerson have hinted at in the past -- and panels featuring "Orange Is the New Black," "Pretty Little Liars," a "How I Met Your Mother" farewell and more. It's probably a good thing the festival is moving to the larger venue of the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
