Inspector George Gently (George Gently) is a British television series set in the 1960s, based on the Inspector Gently novels by Alan Hunter.
It's 1969, and on Christmas Eve Gently is enjoying the festive cheer, until he gets news. A bank has been hit, and there's work to be done. Gently's hunt for the gunmen takes him into the world of skinheads. Gently has little fear, but the world is changing around him. Gently is later faced with a difficult dilemma. Does the law always have to be so cruel? Can he bend it just this once?
Gently's wife has been killed in a hit and run, and Gently suspects his nemesis, Joe Webster, who's just been released from jail. Gently, disillusioned with the police force, follows Webster up to Northumberland after he discovers that he's attended the funeral of a young biker. When further members of the gang are also killed, Gently finds he's not the only man seeking vengeance. Along with his Machiavellian sidekick, Bacchus, they race to find their suspect before the killer strikes again.
