Vincent D’Onofrio and Dick Wolf on LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT–Is Season 10 a “Swan Song or a Victory Lap?”

LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT  returns to USA Sunday, May 1 for its tenth and presumptively final season with the original team of Detectives Robert Goren and Alex Eames (Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe ) back on the case. NBC Universal Chairman Bonnie Hammer and USA Co-President Jeff Wachtel pitched the idea of this last short stretch of episodes as a way to pay tribute to the show’s fans, something  Law & Order  uber boss Dick Wolf called "the best creative gesture that has ever been extended to me by any network in 30 years in the business." The fact that Goren was fired from the Major Case Squad for insubordination means that reinstating him will be no easy feat, so his redemption will factor heavily into this final eight episodes, hopefully giving them new layers of emotional resonance. 'Criminal Intent' tackles Charlie Sheen. 'We take the headline, but not the body.'

Charlie Sheen might not feel like he's "winning" once he sees the "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" take on his recent escapades. Now on his "Violent Torpedo of Truth" tour of live stage shows, the former "Two and a Half Men" star is the inspiration for one of the crime drama's final eight episodes that begin their run Sunday, May 1, on USA. (They'll also be seen starting Monday, May 30, on NBC.)In the "Criminal Intent" variation, Jay Mohr ("Gary Unmarried") guest stars as the pseudo-Charlie, a celebrity fashion designer with a reputation for indulging in various vices. A murder at one of his parties brings reunited police-detective partners Goren and Eames (Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe) to the scene. The result is "unexpected but not unexpected," executive producer and "Law & Order" mentor Dick Wolf tells Zap2it. "There is stuff that will strongly suggest Charlie to people, and Jay really delivers. He's got that kind of edgy... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/04/criminal-intent-tackles-charlie-sheen-we-take-the-headline-but-not-the-body.html

Jay Mohr to Portray Charlie Sheen-ish Character in Law & Order: Criminal Intent

The Law & Order franchise has been famous for its ripped-from-the-headlines approach to storylines. It looks as if the final season of USA's Criminal Intent is no different, as not only are they doing a Ronni Chasen inspired episode, but they're portraying America's favorite warlock, Charlie Sheen. According to Deadline, Criminal Intent has cast Jay Mohr to play a Charlie Sheen-like bad boy named Nyle Brite, known for his love of cocaine and hookers. I'm interested to see how much artistic license the writers take with this episode. If they go too close to what's actually happened with Sheen, it could be a little tired, but if they use Sheen's antics only as a base and add in even more insanity, it could be a pretty interesting episode. Jay Mohr has played characters in the same ballpark as Brite, most notably in Fox's short-lived Action , so I think he could pull off the role as an unhinged star quite well.
