'MasterChef' Interview: For Charlie and Ailsa, No Trophy but No Regrets

Imagine - you've out-cooked thousands of contenders and grabbed an apron for MasterChef season 6's Top 22. But it's still a competition, and someone gets the boot early. Some of us would be bitter at just missing out, but not Charlie Chapman or Ailsa Von Dobeneck.   Maybe it's the distance they've gained since filming ended several weeks ago. Or maybe it's just that these two upbeat Southerners realize one speed bump on the road to gastronomic glory can't hold them back. As we move closer to the season finale, I caught up with these gone-too-soon home cooks.   Read More... http://www.buddytv.com/articles/masterchef/masterchef-interview-for-charl-57396.aspx

'Masterchef' Interviews: Veronica, Jesse, and Brianna Find Life After the Apron

With six home cooks still battling it out on MasterChef, the kitchen couldn't be hotter. For the rest of the Top 22, however, the judges put their dreams of taking home the "covetedtrophy" on ice.   We're checking in on three of the season 6 contestants who left early. Guess what? They haven't put down their knives just yet. Hearing about their experiences, two things are clear. First, if you want to make friends for life, audition for MasterChef . Second, even without a trophy, you can walk away a winner. (Though, admittedly, not richer.)   Read More... http://www.buddytv.com/articles/masterchef/masterchef-interviews-veronica-57352.aspx

'MasterChef' Interview: Claudia Sandoval Throws Aside Excuses and Keeps Her Head in the Game

It takes a special kind of cook to find a whole pig's head on her stove - and laugh with delight. For Claudia Sandoval, the ability to fearlessly stare down her main ingredient is just another reason why she's made the MasterChef Top 7.   So far, her love of traditional Mexican cuisine has brought success -- and a spicy dance with Chef Graham Elliot. So it's not too surprising she was visiting her grandmother's house in San Diego when we spoke.   Read More... http://www.buddytv.com/articles/masterchef/masterchef-interview-claudia-s-57290.aspx

'MasterChef' Interview: Olivia Crouppen on Her Turning Point and Wanting to Win

Not many ninjas do their thing in stilettos, except for Olivia Crouppen. She's sliced and diced her way into the MasterChef Top 10 and beyond -- without dramatics or sarcasm and always, always wearing black. And heels. One of her fellow contestants, Nick Nappi, calls her "the silent ninja" for her steady, no-nonsense performance on the show. Perhaps taking the "silent" thing to heart, Olivia was recovering from a bout of pneumonia when we spoke. Fortunately, her voice returned just in time. 'MasterChef' Interview: Nick Nappi Whips Up a Dream for His Future

Like many veteran viewers of reality shows, I always wonder: Are we seeing the "real" person? When it comes to MasterChef , the contestants repeatedly say "yep, that's me!". Nick Nappi is no exception. If he were, he might be the first person in the history of reality TV to appear nicer than he really is. But based on how many of the season 6 home cooks have told me, "I just got back from visiting Nick!," it's more likely the show's cameras have captured the real deal.   Read More... http://www.buddytv.com/articles/masterchef/like-many-veteran-viewers-of-57180.aspx

'MasterChef' Interview: Prowling the Kitchen with Stephen Lee

Is Stephen Lee the most misunderstood contestant on MasterChef ? Granted, the urban gardener's raging, cursing, and impatience have marked him as season 6's wild man. But you might be surprised to learn he has a gentler side we haven't seen much on camera. Speaking of wild: What about the nail-biter, when he and Christopher Lu both kept their aprons? True drama. But Stephen's apparent meltdown? Well, we're going to let Stephen tell you his side of the story. He called me from his home in Palm Springs, California.   Read More... http://www.buddytv.com/articles/masterchef/masterchef-interview-prowling-57130.aspx

'MasterChef' Interview: Christopher Lu Serves up a Buffet of Talent and Emotion

MasterChef contestant Christopher Lu is a study in contradictions. He's a non-baker who won a pastry challenge. A meat-lover who flopped at Beef Wellington. A man with roots in Taiwan whose favorite dish is spaghetti Bolognese.   Could this intense cook with a decidedly goofy side use his entertaining unpredictability to take him all the way to the winner's circle? We'll have to wait for several weeks to find out. In the meantime, he spoke with me from his home in Hollywood, California.   Read More... http://www.buddytv.com/articles/masterchef/masterchef-interview-christoph-57071.aspx
