There is a selection tournament at Marinette's school for 'Ultimate Mega Strike 3' and the 2 students with the highest scores will compete in the main tournament. Even though it seems that Max and Adrien will be the winning duo to move on, Marinette decides to step in last mintue and participate, seeing this as the perfect opportunity to get close to Adrien. Not only does she win against Max, but she also manages to get the highest score possible, ensuring her place in the team. No longer qualified to compete, Max congratulates Marinette and Adrien then quietly leaves. Angry about all his gaming training gone to waste, Max becomes influenced by Hawk Moth and turns into 'Gamer', a mecha-wielding supervillain that can level up by using his hyperbeam and gaining enough 'experience points'.
