TV ratings: 'The X Factor' has a modest premiere, 'Modern Family' big Wednesday

Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011It was a good news-bad news situation for "The X Factor" premiere on Wednesday. On the good side, the show gave FOX its best season-opening Wednesday since the early 1990s. On the bad, it was well below the premiere numbers for "American Idol" last season and below what most people were expecting.Elsewhere, "Modern Family" and "The Middle" both posted strong premiere numbers, and ABC's new drama "Revenge" had a decent opening as well. NBC's "Up All Night" and "Free Agents" dropped a good amount in their regular homes, while CBS' lineup was pretty steady. The total-viewer crown on Wednesday went to CBS, which averaged 12.3 million viewers and a 7.6 rating/12 share in households, edging FOX's 12.1 million and 7.2/11. ABC (11.4 million, 7.0/11) finished a solid third. NBC was a ways back in fourth with 6.6 million viewers and a 4.4/7. The CW (1.3 million, 0.9/1) wasn't much... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/09/tv-ratings-the-x-factor-has-a-modest-premiere-modern-family-big-wednesday.html

Claire Interrupts Dylan's Big Moment on 'Modern Family' Premiere (VIDEO)

'Modern Family' (Wed., 9PM ET on ABC) kicked off its third season by taking the extended family to a dude ranch. Even Dylan came along, which made Hayley happy but was a huge stress-inducer for Claire. This culminated in her most terrified moment around the campfire when Dylan got down on one knee to propose to Hayley. Before he could even finish, Claire stopped him dead in his tracks and essentially scolded the both of them and sent Dylan to his room. As she learned later, though, Hayley wasn't going to say yes to Dylan anyway. Claire just needed to understand that she was growing up, which turned out to be a theme of the episode. Only Luke seems to still be just as delightfully boyish as ever. And let's face it, Manny was never really a kid. http://www.aoltv.com/2011/09/22/claire-interrupts-dylan-moment-modern-family-premiere-video/
