After the attempt to rescue Sasuke from Orochimaru failed, Naruto proceeds to learn to use Wind Chakra nature while learning Konohamaru fulfilled the second part of the Rasengan mastery training. As both Kakashi and Yamato are flabbergasted on Konohamaru's unorthodox training method for the first two steps, Naruto tells Konohamaru the final phase of his training. But Konohamaru admits he never learned to create Shadow Clones and challenges Naruto to see which of them will master their respective new technique first. But Konohamaru ultimately loses as Naruto succeeds in adding Wind chakra nature to his Rasengan, learning that his uncle Asuma died fighting the Akatsuki's Hidan and Kakuzu. While Naruto battled Kakuzu, Konohamaru learn the Shadow Clone jutsu and achieves a Rasengan. Soon after, while Naruto left for Mount Myoboku for training, Konohamaru uses what he learned during Pain's attack on the Hidden Leaf Village. But the time Naruto returned, Konohamaru reveals that he managed to stored Naruto's old jacket away in the evacuation shelter.
