* The Cleaner (10 pm/ET A&E) "Clean" doesn't always mean "bright" as evidenced by the gloomy second-season opener, which features guest star Whoopi Goldberg. The main story follows William's attempt to help a national-news anchor, played by Gary Cole, who claims to have been clean for years, but William knows better. The irony is that the man is a spokesperson for recovery. There's also little light behind the scenes, with William's troubled marriage and news of a friend's terminal illness. * The Superstars (8 pm/ET ABC) Mixing celebrities with dancers worked for ABC, so why not pair stars with athletes in a tweaked version of the old Wide World of Sports spin-off that was once popular on the network? Eight celebs, including the physically fit Ali Landry and Joanna Krupa, are paired with pro athletes (Terrell Owens and Bode Miller, among them) to compete in a series of athletic events, with one duo getting eliminated each week. In the opener, the teams participate in a bicycle race - but are given only one bike - and in a kayak relay race. It all takes place at the lush Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. Nice gig, if you can get it. * America's Got Talent (9 pm/ET NBC) The British version of this show recently made splashy Web headlines that tracked the fascinating real-world dramas of contestant Susan Boyle. Will a Susan Boyle-type emerge in this season's U.S. edition? We'll find out soon enough, as the colorful variety talent show kicks off its fourth year with country-spanning preliminary auditions. Nick Cannon serves as the new host, replacing Jerry Springer. Remaining in place is that familiar trio of arbiters - David Hasselhoff, Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan (who has hinted in reports that Boyle may appear sometime this season). * NYC Prep (10 pm/ET Bravo ) The lives of six well-connected, well-tended teens in Manhattan's elite prep-school scene open up in this unscripted series, a sort of Gossip Girl in the real world. The show captures this dirty half-dozen as they party, dine and whine, shop and schmooze. There may be some studying in there as well. In the premiere, dramas twirl around seniors Jessie and PC, who share a romantic history. Then there's sophomore Sebastian, who casts his Lothario spell on Kelli. And Camille's preoccupation with Harvard may be stifling her social life. These kids are at the top of the class, but are they class acts? * Primetime: Family Secrets (10:01 pm/ET ABC) Primetime is back for the summer with a new round of its compartmentalized editions, starting with Family Secrets on Tuesdays. Tonight's "family secret" is teen pregnancy, and it's explored from the perspectives of teens in Kentucky, Washington state and Texas. Correspondent Jay Schadler also visits sex-education classes in Massachusetts and Texas, and he finds two differing approaches to the subject. Source Here
While New York City private schools are upset about Bravo 's new docu-drama, NYC Prep , which premieres tomorrow, some of the show's cast members are also upset about being compared to Gossip Girl . It's actually hard to draw a thin line between these two shows. After all, NYC Prep, even though it's billed as a reality series, is still a program that's intended for good TV and will likely expose some of the scandalous lives of wealthy teenagers at an elite prep school on New York City's Upper East Side--- the exact premise of The CW teen drama. However, Jessie, one of the cast members of NYC Prep, detests the association. "I hate that show!" Jessie shouts at a saleslady who has made the mistake of identifying the outfit she's trying on as "like Gossip Girl." And why wouldn't she? Gossip Girl might as well be a finely edited version of her own life and that of her friends. Plus, the show films on her block and features her favorite hangout spots. Meanwhile, the similarities don't end there. The L.A. Times has somehow compared Jessie to Blair while other cast members of NYC Prep have been put side by side to their Gossip Girl counterparts: PC is definitely Chuck, Sebastian is Nate, Taylor is Jenny, Camille is other parts of Blair with some Nelly thrown in, and Kelli is probably Penelope or Hazel. The show has no real-life version of Serena and not surprisingly, NYP Prep doesn't have a Dan or a Vanessa either. If you want to get to know these kids better, check back for updates on the premiere preview of NYP Prep, airing at tomorrow at 10pm, preceded by The Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion special at 9 pm ET/PT on Bravo. Though Bravo has made a name for itself in the nonfiction TV game, NBC's sibling netlet is delving into a new genre: scripted series. The network announced plans Tuesday for two new scripted shows during its upfront presentations: Blueprint follows the lives of two best friends - one straight and one gay - who co-own a New York design firm. The dramedy comes from Laurence Andries ( Six Feet Under , Alias ) and executive producers Leslie Morgenstein and Bob Levy for Alloy Entertainment ( Gossip Girl ). 30 Under 30 centers on young, influential professionals (a sexy young chef, a gossip blogger, avant-garde artist) whose glamorous - and sometimes scandalous - lives intersect in New York City. Jonathan Prince ( The Cleaner , Cane , American Dreams ) and Alana Sanko (Murphy Brown) are behind the new show. Other new reality/competition programming: * American Artist : A creative competition series among contemporary artists (from Sarah Jessica Parker) * Design Sixx (working title): A husband-and-wife design team renovate abandoned buildings in NYC - with their six (soon-to-be-seven) kids in tow. * Launch My Line (formerly known as Celebrity Sew-Off): Reality competition series with 10 established designers paired with pop culture notables * Laura Bennett (working title): The former Project Runway finalist stars in her own series about her life as a designer and mother of six. * NYC Prep : Six upper-crust teens live the good life in Manhattan (think real-life Gossip Girl) - premieres June 23 at 10 pm/ET * The Fashion Show : Isaac Mizrahi and Kelly Rowland host a reality competition series of 15 professional designers competing to have their work sold in the retail market (where viewers decide the winner) * The Real Housewives of New Jersey : Words fail us. Watch the preview to get a real taste of Jersey - premieres May 12, 11 pm/ET Bravo also announced the returns of Top Chef , Flipping Out, The Real Housewives of Orange County and Atlanta, Million Dollar Listing and The Rachel Zoe Project . A real life " Gossip Girl " series is coming to the small screen. On Thursday, April 10, Bravo Media's Executive Vice President and General Manager, Frances Berwick, announced that the television network has picked up " NYC Prep ", a documentary series which has similar prep school-set as The CW 's popular TV series. The new documentary is billed to chronicle the lives of a group of six affluent teenagers in Manhattan's social circle. " Bravo continues to intrigue audiences with real-life depictions of relatable characters who live in exclusive worlds," Berwick explained. "We'll watch as these teenagers manage the ups and downs of not only being in high school, but what comes along with growing up as part of New York's elite." Through press release, it is further promised that "NYC Prep" will present a world where "everyone's beautiful and everyone's connected" as well as the price behind the privilege the kids have. The new series will be premiered on Tuesday, June 16 at 11 P.M. ET/PT. Following its premiere, the series will fall into a regular time slot on Tuesday, June 23 at 10 P.M. ET/PT.
