Season 1 & 2 were the best, stop after season 3.
It is now a terrible show about Captain Hook.
The writers are just adding new characters and not working on character development.
The magic of season 1 is now gone, where multiple characters had their stories told now its all Captain Hook and Emma Swan.

The perfect blend of the fairytales we all love and new twists that keep us coming back for more. It's hard not to fall in love with these characters. The men are loyal and protective, with some handsome looks mixed in. The women are fierce and badass. The show's value of family has you wanting to invite them into your home every Sunday night.

I can remember programs in my growing up years (and that is a ways back) ... when it came to the good guys, and the ones they associated with, they always came out on top ... and the villains always failed. After so much of that, a body was mentally prepared for the outcome ... no matter how the story went, or how much danger they got into, you kinda already knew the outcome.
Without adding in a stronger element of reality --- the chance that all your heroes might not come out on top --- programs (and books) would be overly predictable and therefore ... "boring".
Yes, it's difficult to handle the loss of a character you love, or handle their grieving when they're handling an upsetting situation. But, that's the point of writing the story line that way ... to grab you by your innards and twist in order to get these emotional reactions out of you.
Congratulations, writers (and actors) of OUAT ... it appears you have succeeded.

This series did not catch my heart right away... It slowly grew on me, becoming one of my personal favourites. As a big fan of supernatural, fantasy and, the most important, fairytales I started watching, I dropped it for quite some time, just to return to it now, and slowly fall in love with it.

My one and only complaint about this show is it's portrayal of a "one true love" being the only path to happiness for it's characters, and the truckload of clichès used as plot points. That said, the cast is wonderful and endearing (even you Robbie Kay, even you) and complex; the characters at turns inspiring and infuriating. While based on fantasy, OUAT refuses to cast anyone as purely good, or purely evil. Your heart will break for the Wicked Witch of the West. You will side with the Evil Queen against Snow White's self righteous streak. You will want to follow the heroes in to the enchanted forest. Occasionally, a person needs to watch something that makes them feel like the good in the world might just prevail after all, that gives you a little hope. That is this show.

Lacking dialogue and repeated story elements are made up for by supreme actors and fabulous stories! I've always loved fairytales, novels and stories, and I couldn't stop watching this even if I wanted to...

This show is a masterpiece. Yes, it’s a retelling of fairytales, and that’s all neat and wonderful, but to cohesively mesh every fairytale you know into one storyline takes some killer skill. I am very impressed with this show, and I love the darker turn season 5 is going. The acting is well done (in most cases) and Colin O’Donoghue is flipping life, so there’s that. It really helps to be in love with a character, so in my case that’s good ‘ol Captain Hook.
