Ash and friends' lunch is interrupted by a Roggenrola. Ash tries to battle it but loses. They head to a nearby Pokémon Center where they learn from Nurse Joy and a man named Mr. Garrison that it is strange to see Roggenrola come out of the nearby cave. They concluded that something must be happening to the cave and so Ash, Iris, and Cilan join Mr. Garrison on a trip to the cave to see what is happening. When they arrive at the cave they soon discover that Team Rocket is in the cave and capturing all the Roggenrola for a new weapon of theirs.
