Look who we ran into at the Reality Rocks Expo in Los Angeles on Saturday (April 9): From Last season's "Project Runway," Michael Costello. He was the target of lots of criticism from his competitors who believed he lacked the skills to compete on the same level with them. Regardless, he went on to win several challenges and their respect."I have my process," he tells Zap2it. "I taught myself how to sew. My mom taught me a few different things, but I taught myself by taking clothes apart, playing with fabric, and I created my own kind of crazy sewing technique that works for me and it works for my customers, too. And I'm able to use that to make functional clothing. And it worked on the show. The judges really showed me a lot of support with what I did."The season was also marred by a controversial win by Gretchen Jones. And despite the fact... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/04/project-runways-michael-costello-defends-season-8s-controversial-winner-gretchen-gasp.html
She was the talented and spunky South African on "Project Runway's" second season who just missed that season's finale. Regardless, Kara Janx went on to sell hundreds of her signature kimono dress made famous on the show and she has been designing under her own label ever since. And while her pieces have found their way to the retail public in boutiques and major retailers like Bloomingdales, Janx found herself struggling with how to take her business to the next level. Enter ELLE magazine's Joe Zee. Janx appears in the second episode of his new Sundance reality series, "All on the Line.""I don't know if Joe needed to kind of save me," Janx tells Zap2it of the experience. "But I felt I had to get myself out there again in terms of being in the public's view.""It was just a huge milestone for me," she adds. "And it really helps now with other sales. So, it... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/04/project-runways-kara-janx-puts-it-all-on-the-line-with-elles-joe-zee.html
Deadline.com is reporting that a new Project Runway spin-off is in the works. Whereas previous incarnations of the former Bravo hit have focused on the models, Tim Gunn, and former contestants, the next spinoff will be all about the accessories. If handled properly, this could be a pretty good show. My main problem with the last few seasons of Project Runway is that they’ve gotten so far away from the actual construction of the garments and headed down a road of backstabbing, name calling, and overall ugliness that the intent of the show seems to be lost in translation. A show focusing on accessories could get back to the bare bones approach of the first few seasons of Project Runway , eliminating the awful time crunches and allowing a closer look at what goes into a design. However, it could have a reverse effect. Making gowns takes a tremendous amount of time and effort, so if that was deemed not "exciting" enough for TV, what’s to stop a show about accessories (an aspect of fashion that likely takes less time to create, therefore providing less footage) from being a continuation of the current incarnation of Project Runway ? Oh God. Marie Claire has produced this heinous damage-control (?!) video about Project Runway‘s season 8 winner, Wretchin’ Gretchen Jones.
