Kirsten Nelson: '1967: A Psych Odyssey' is 'the goodbye episode'

As its final run of episodes starts, "Psych" is time-traveling for "1967: A Psych Odyssey," which sees the gang solving a decades-old murder, all the while dealing with some very big changes for the SBPD family. For star Kirsten Nelson, it was an episode filled with many emotions because not only is Chief Vick leaving and the show coming to an end, but it was also her directorial debut."When they offered me this episode, I was really excited. ... Then I got the script and my heart melted. It was such an emotional one," Nelson tells Zap2it, "but I was so honored that we kept it in the family to direct this pivotal episode. It definitely requires the touch of somebody who's been there for eight years to really, really understand what was exactly happening."This episode, there's so many new beginnings, but it's the goodbye episode," she continues. "There's a lot of stuff that happens with... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/02/kirsten-nelson-1967-a-psych-odyssey-is-the-goodbye-episode.html

'Psych's' Kirsten Nelson reminices about 'The West Wing' and the late Kathryn Joosten

Zap2it spoke with "Psych" actress Kirsten Nelson in preparation for her directorial debut on Wednesday's (Feb. 26) episode of the USA comedy. An interview about that process and the end of "Psych" is coming later in the week, but one of the other topics we touched on was her memorable guest-starring role on "The West Wing."In the Season 2 finale of NBC's political drama, titled "Two Cathedrals," Nelson played the younger version of Mrs. Landingham, secretary to President Bartlet who in present-day had just been killed in a car accident. Nelson tells Zap2it that it was actually due to Kathryn Joosten, the actress who played present-day Mrs. Landingham and who passed away herself in 2012, that she auditioned for the role. "That is still one of the roles that's closest to my heart. I knew Kathy Joosten, we worked together on a very short-lived series called 'Thanks' for CBS," says Nelson. "I ran into her... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/02/psychs-kirsten-nelson-reminices-about-the-west-wing-and-the-late-kathryn-joosten.html

'Psych's' Dule Hill: Actor, tap dancer, endorsed by Aaron Sorkin

Zap2it: You're back on Broadway in "After Midnight." What's that been like?Dule Hill: After "Bring in Da Funk," I didn't want to do another musical unless it affected me in that same way, and "After Midnight" does that. I love dancing. I started out as a tap-dancer, and any opportunity that has to do with it is a blast.Zap2it: Most people know you as an actor, not a tap-dancer. Was that your intention?Dule Hill: When I left Norfolk (Va.) and went to L.A., everyone knew me as a tap-dancer, and I was trying to establish myself as an actor. Aaron Sorkin said, "If more dancers acted like Dule, we need to hire more dancers." It's like a full circle thing.Zap2it: You had some pretty impressive dance mentors. Who in particular helped mold you?Dule Hill: Gregory Hines was one of my major mentors. I pretty much modeled my career after Gregory and Harold Nicholas. I miss... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/02/psychs-dule-hill-actor-tap-dancer-endorsed-by-aaron-sorkin.html

'Psych' - 'Cog Blocked' GIFs: An ode to Burton Guster

If you hadn't heard, this is "Psych's" final season (we know, we're upset too), but it's going out with a bang. There is nary a misstep between now and the series finale on March 26. Wednesday's (Feb. 5) episode starts the countdown to the end off right, with Dulé Hill's magnum opus as Burton Guster. When John Russell, a man living a carbon-copy of Gus' life, dies in an apparent suicide, Gus is bound and determined to prove that he (Gus Russ) didn't kill himself. It was a ton of fun watching Gus be the head detective for once, since nobody believes him that Russell was actually murdered. There's also the introduction of Emanuelle (Kali Hawk), a private detective and love interest for Gus. Here's hoping we haven't seen the last of her. It was also awesome to see Gus throw off the shackles of Central Coast Pharmaceuticals after all these years. You deserve a... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/02/psych-cog-blocked-gifs-an-ode-to-burton-guster.html

It will be followed by a live, one-hour "Psych After Show" special, which will feature a Q&A with creator Steve Franks and the entire cast. Interestingly, USA Network president Chris McCumber says in a statement, "'Psych' has made an indelible imprint on the television landscape, with a unique brand of comedy. The final season celebrates the iconic characters that have made this show so beloved, and will be an exclamation point on the series' incredible run. And while the series will wrap in March somehow I don't believe we've heard the last of Shawn and Gus."Take from that what you will... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/02/psych-season-8-will-be-the-final-season-but-shawn-and-gus-may-return.html
