It's not realistic but it's not meant to be, it's summer fun that I'm enjoying watching. A good first episode.. Fun, daftness, drama and secrets with a bit of humor thrown in. It may have flaws but it also has high production values and sincere acting combined with pretty good writing that does exposition not that badly. The pilot is just setting up the season and introducing characters = the usual pilot. If you liked the movie The Recruit then you'll see a couple similarities in the pilot. don't know if I should be diving into this in the first ep as it may not make renewal but hey, living on the edge, eh??? ;D

This review is based on the pilot for "Salvation" which aired 7/12/17. Salvation is one of the first new shows of the summer season to start, and honestly, while I enjoyed it, it was a bit underwhelming and I don't see it becoming a huge success. While the subject matter hasn't been done-to-death by TV series, it has been covered at least 2 dozen times by Syfy movies, including a mini-series called Ascension from 2014 which even starred the same actress. Salvation deals with the threat of an extinction level meteor approaching the earth, and a young college student who is working on a 'totally realistic' map of outer space who discovers it, and then enlists the help of an Elon Musk type tech billionaire to help save the world who just happens to have TV-only sci-fi technology like 3d holograms and a Jarvis like AI in his smart house. Well hey, I personally love Tv-only sci-fi technology like 3D holograms. Heck, they even had it on Crossing Lines, Bones, and Ransom which are not sci-fi shows, so thats sort of just a given at this point. It's the TV industries way of saying to the tech industry, hurry up with those damn 3D hologram projectors already. Anyway, the characters were bracing cliche, and some of the script was a bit on the nose, and at times it felt sort of like a 2006 campy Syfy movie, but in the end it pulled itself together and actually wasn't half bad. It sort of reminded me of The Event, since Ian Anthony Dale is finally back in a lead role where he belongs. I'll be watching next week and seeing where it goes. I guess it's also worth mentioning that Jacqueline Byers is in it, and she's a goddess :D
