Review of Shameless (US)

Sundays, 9:00 PM ET on Showtime

60 minutes

Based on a long-running British drama, Shameless stars William H. Macy as the alcoholic patriarch of a big blue-collar family in Chicago, the Gallaghers. The mother is AWOL, and with the alcoholic patriarch (Macy) usually passed out on the living-room floor, their smart but unpredictable 18-year-old daughter, Fiona (Rossum), is tasked with keeping her five younger brothers and sisters on the straight and narrow.

Coming from the south-side of Chicago this show reminds me of how I managed to be the person I came to be. Shameless encompasses the good, the bad, the ugly, and the way of life from those who live in the Bridgeport-Canaryville Area. Back of the Yards has very few Irish-Americans and Polish-Americans left. It has been a thriving Hispanic community for some years. I believe they did well with the writing. I can safely say that some of the story lines truth is stranger than the fiction.
