Four families live in isolation in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in this series, which begins in the fall with Heimo's pursuit of migrating caribou. Meanwhile, Bob returns to his remote cabin to find it's been ransacked by a grizzly bear that destroyed his two-year food supply; and the Lewises compete with wolves to take down a moose that will feed them through the winter.
