The Lizzie Bennet Diaries
Lizzie Bennet Diaries is a modernized adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice. The story is told primarily through Lizzie Bennet‘s Video Diaries, while being supported by her and other characters social media streams.
If a show or a movie has but an inkling of Pride and Prejudice in the story, I will watch it! (This is how I sat through Lost in Austen, which can very much NOT be commended, if you have any love for Pride and Prejudice what-so-ever.) The Lizzie Bennet Diaries though, is a perfect modern rendition of this amazing classic by Jane Austen, and I re-watch this more often than I probably should. No one beats Colin Firth as an 1800s gentleman Darcy, but Daniel Vincent Gordh definitely takes the price as the best modern day Darcy. Ashley Clements is perfect as Lizzie Bennet and the story has been adapted to perfection. This is some of the best TV - though a web-series - ever made.
The best modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice that exists in the whole world. The modernised version of our beloved classic characters are spot on considering the circumstances. They leap across the screen - or YouTube video window - and gradually all become complex characters that you can't simply put in a box like you could with the original characters. The four leading ladies are phenomenal and their chemistry is spot on. Charlotte and Lydia gets to have storylines that resonate with many people. The transmedia elements that all of us that watched it during the postings of videos made all of these characters people we could see and interact with on our social media platforms and have created a lasting connection to that year when these characters existed in our lives. I truly cannot recommend this enough and have rewatched it multiple times since it ended in 2013.
