'The Middle's' Neil Flynn remembers his first (and last) acting award

Zap2it:How did you become involved with improv?Neil Flynn: I tried improv pretty late in the game and had been an actor for 10 years, and the idea of improvising scared me. In '92, I left Los Angeles because I wasn't making any headway here. I went back to Chicago. For whatever reason the time was right for me to give it a try. I went to Del Close's theater, the ImprovOlympic Theatre, and I gave it a try and took to it.Zap2it: When did you know that you were an actor?Neil Flynn: When I was still in school, probably in high school, and I had not really found my thing. And I did a play, and I really felt at home, and I won a little award for it, and which, by the way, I believe is the last award I won. It was a good little piece of encouragement.Zap2it: Then how did you go... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/05/the-middles-neil-flynn-remembers-his-first-and-last-acting-award.html

'The Middle's' Neil Flynn: 'Too much doing what I want, when I want'

Neil Flynn was kicking around show business for 20 years when his big break came from what was supposed to be a nothing, one-time role on "Scrubs."He was the janitor."There was no promise that he would ever appear again after the pilot," Flynn tells Zap2it. "And then Bill Lawrence, who created the show -- [who] I owe an eternal debt to -- he just wrote me into every show for eight years."Flynn now plays Mike Heck, the dad on ABC's "The Middle.""Mike and Frankie (Patricia Heaton) balance each other well as characters," Flynn says. "And they are believable."The comedy, which often flies under the radar, "is relatable," he says. "It is pretty grounded."This show has also been wonderful for him, he says. "The producers of 'The Middle' were looking forward for me to audition," Flynn says. "And that is the only time anyone has ever anticipated my arrival at an audition! That they would give... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/05/the-middles-neil-flynn-too-much-doing-what-i-want-when-i-want.html

In Praise of The Middle's Eden Sher

Who do you want you to be tomorrow? Because we kind of want to be Sue Heck.  Inspired by last night's episode — in which the misfit teen found her spirit animal in guest Whoopi Golberg's super-supportive guidance counselor — the Watercooler felt the need to address the joy of watching The Middle 's Eden Sher kill it every week. As the Heck family member who's only real skill seems to be indefatigable optimism, we'd say that Sher has turned the character into a lovable loser, but she has always been a winner in that regard. Ever since the pilot, whether it's been barely registering in her high school's social scene or having to put up with her embarrassing brothers, she is the ultimate Jan Brady who thinks she's a Marcia. http://www.tvguide.com/News/Watercooler-Eden-Sher-1046871.aspx?rss=breakingnews
