Hulu Adds Disney, Fox Networks to New Streaming TV Service

Hulu has reached agreements with 21st Century Fox and The Walt Disney Company that will make more than 35 networks available for the live-streaming service Hulu plans to launch early next year. As co-owners of Hulu, Fox and Disney are obvious early partners. Among the networks they are offering for the new venture are FOX and ABC, several Fox Sports networks, ESPN, Disney Channel, FX, and National Geographic. "We're building a service that offers subscribers the most sought-after programming on television – and channels from 21st Century Fox and The Walt Disney Company are essential to that mix," Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins said in a statement. "With these two new deals in place, and additional partners to come, Hulu will soon give TV fans of all ages live and on-demand access to their favorite programs in a whole new, more flexible, highly personalized way." Earlier this year, Hulu reached a deal with Time Warner for live and on-demand streaming of Turner's lineup, including TNT, TBS, CNN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and truTV. Big names such as CBS and NBC remain missing from the venture. But Comcast, NBC's owner, also is an investor in Hulu, so a deal seems likely. Hulu's service will compete with live-streaming pioneers Sling TV and Playstation Vue, plus AT&T's DirecTV, which is planned to launch later this month with a $35 monthly package including more than 100 channels.
