In a casting coup, DreamWorks Animation has set Benedict Cumberbatch and John Malkovich to voice new characters in its spin-off "The Penguins of Madagascar," TheWrap has learned. Neil Patrick Harris has brought his powerful pipes to the stage, the Internet and How I Met Your Mother , but now he's taking his singing voice to Nickelodeon's animated Penguins of Madagascar special, " Blowhole Strikes Back." In the hourlong special (airing Friday at 8/7c), Harris returns as the penguins' sinister nemesis, Dr. Blowhole. The Penguins of Madagascar are known for putting their own unique spin on things, and the holidays are no exception. While many will be celebrating Christmas on Dec. 25th, the penguins will be ringing in their annual Kidsmas celebration. To make the most of the only day the zoo is closed to visitors, the penguins try to organize decorations, food, gifts and a visit from Santa. The Penguins of Madagascar is an American CGI Animated TV season broadcast on Nickelodeon, starring the Penguins from the 2005 film, Madagascar. A pilot episode, Gone in a Flash, aired part of Super Stuffed Nicktoons Weekend on November 28, 2008 before a new episode of SpongeBob SquarePants, and The Penguins of Madagascar will become a regular series in March. The series is planned to have 26 episodes taking place after the events of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. This is the only Nicktoon produced with DreamWorks Animation. After some delays of the series to air, The Penguins of Madagascar is currently being planned for a Nickelodeon premiere in March. The series is produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, California. Though Making Fiends was sent to Nicktoons Network, with a failure to premiere on Nickelodeon, TPoM will still be airing on Nickelodeon. Both Nickelodeon and DreamWorks Animation are planning on a 26 episode season. The series is planned to air this year in March.
