Visually, this show is stunning. Locating the Village in the middle of the desert gives an intense feeling of being trapped, and the village itself is gorgeous. The show also has wonderful color composition -- particular shades of yellow, red, and green appear everywhere. They even color-match to the pills...why? why? Visually, it's intriguing and enough to keep you watching. But it's just so SLOW. You keep waiting for something to happen, or someone to explain SOMETHING. All you get are more questions. At some point just just stop caring. The primary lead, Jim Caviezel, fails to impress or interest me. Whether confused, angry, or bored, he always seems to have the same expression on his face, and he never draws you in. Ian McKellen is great. He generates an atmosphere of jovial menace, and constantly has you wondering just what his motivations are. Of course, a good ending can save a show like this. Sadly, it doesn't.
